I imagine MLB's lawyer spending the entire time of Hernandez's hypothetical deposition showing him video of all his botched calls and antagonizing players and managers and then asking him about it.
The antagonizing of the players and managers was also racially motivated. So were the disparaging remarks by virtually all TV and radio crews.

You have to give him credit for having the discipline to write the entire complaint in Braille.
for which the next commenter gave him a +1 unjustified ejection. nice
That Braille comment actually got me to lol
I'll be interested to see whether any other umpires in a racial/ethnic minority join Hernandez' suit. If they don't, I suspect that might say something about their professional opinion of Hernandez.
Or their professional opinion of their ability to succeed while complaining.
True. MLB was eventually forced to accept the agency of its players, but has been much more ruthless with umps' labor concerns.
Interesting to note the drop-off in performance evaluations & the appearance of critical notes in Hernandez' file coincide with him being transferred off Joe West's crew mid-season.
His rebuttal, of course, will be Joe West.
Anyone here have any experience with online glasses stores? I'm in need of new specs (both everyday glasses and prescription sunglasses), and there isn't really anywhere local, and I've never loved the standard Lenscrafters type of stores.
So how does it work? She just knows her prescription and somewhere or other there's a place for that information?
I had my optometrist write out a prescription last time I needed new lenses.
What sean said; get your eyes checked, have your optometrist write down your prescription, then go shopping. The online sites will ask you the prescription questions that need answering.
Problem of course being I have no local optometrist. But maybe I can call the old store and get a prescription... my eyes haven't changed much, if at all.
Since your profession requires good eyesight (unlike an umpire, for example) you really should get your eyes checked if it's been a while.
It's been a few years.
It might be a few more, since I apparently can't get in anywhere until September.
I think they require prescriptions under 3 years old. At least they do for contacts.
The old place won't give me my prescription because they consider it to be out of date, apparently. So... I gotta figure a thing out to get a prescription so I can order glassses.
All of this because I wanted a pair of sunglasses that aren't broken for a vacation coming up in a month.
For a temporary solution, there are sunglasses that fit over prescription glasses, which are actually better for your eyes because they don't allow sunlight in over the top or in through the sides. If you don't like those, there are the clip-on sunglasses. Either type can be found at a Walmart or Target.
yep, got my clip-ons at Walmart, I think. they have multiple sizes/styles to closely match your current glasses.
I've just never found those to fit or work quite right for me.
If you're a Costco member you can walk in to their op department and get a rx. The glasses from Costco were our go to for years, but recently had a horrible customer service experience. The eye exam is pretty cheap if I recall as well. Louisiana also forces you to get a new prescription every year if you want new glasses.
weirdly, however, they would not bill to our insurance (VSP). We have to apply for a reimbursement from our insurer.
That probably cuts down a lot of overhead for them. Dealing with insurance is a nightmare even when you're the one on the receiving end of the money.
The other thing that is very important is getting your face and eye measurements correctly done. The first time I did on-line ordering the glasses were way too big for my head. I now have the correct measurements and have had great results for a heck of a lot cheaper.
The on-line sites have instructions on how to measure yourself, but your optometrist will also provide this information and they are the pros.
Very good point, also measurement from pupil to pupil
Mrs. Hayes & I have both tried Warby Parker. We'd heard fairly good things, so thought we'd give it a throw. She went so far as to order specs; wearing them gave her headaches. We suspect it's because, even with the technology they use, it's hard to get the lenses just right for someone with a tricky prescription (in her case, a strong correction & astigmatism). I tried a few WP frames, and they were just okay. My last pair had lasted me ten years, so I went to a boutique and got a fun pair, figuring I'd get my money out of them.
I knew a guy years back who swore by 39dollarglasses, but I suspect his correction was pretty minor.
Yeah, I'd never go anywhere online for anything but inexpensive prescription sunglasses or the like, but I have clip-on sunglasses, so don't listen to me.
This is good to know. I believe my prescription is a bit on the tricky side because of astigmatism. That said, my Lenscrafters lenses aren't exactly made with care, and switching between regular and sunglasses caused me headaches for a long time too. So I'm probably not going to be any worse off...
Maybe a new prescription is called for, all the same.
I wear contacts most days, so I wind up going in every couple of years. (I stretch the lenses I order online a bit, but not to the point of putting my eyes in jeopardy.) I think it's a scam that contacts prescriptions only last a year, particularly when most of those visits result in a "Yep, same as last year." from the doc. But if it's been a while for you, it's probably worth it to get the full work-up.
Depending on your vision insurance situation, getting coverage for an online order might also be tricky.
This describes me a lot, only I get the lenses from the place that does my exam.
I actually went in yesterday for my exam and new order. One "year" of lenses lasted me three years. Some days I don't wear them at all, some days I wear them more than 12 hours.
Pro tip: if you're on your last pair of contacts and they're at the end of their life, the eye doctor will give you a new set to wear until your order comes in. 13 pairs of contacts for the cost and hassle of 12!
Warby Parker provides possibly the best customer service experience I've had when dealing with online purchases. My glasses got scratched during Mardi
Gras and they replaced the lenses for free. My glasses got knocked into a fire while in Minnesota and they replaced the lenses for free again. Very generous return policy as well. I bought a replacement set of sunglasses and didn't like the brown tint, which they happily replaced for free with grey lenses. Great company.
All of this. I'm wearing mine as I type this.
I should note that my rx is pretty tame save for the astigmatism, but dr. Chop has a crazy rx and warby Parker has worked great for her in the past.
What's been your turnaround time from start to finish? It looks like you try a few frames, send them back, then they put in the lenses and send them back?
It's generally been quick turn around, though I also have access to a Warby Parker frame shop. I think I received my replacement sunglasses in like 7 business days.
you can actually try on 5 at home, and pick one to have lenses put in before you return the try on set which cuts down on the turnaround time.
Having good vision is awesome.
(sorry, just wanted to brag)
This play was insane:
You need to watch what @15LaserShow pulled off more than once.
The Minnesota Timberwolves might soon fill Ricky Rubio's shoes, in part, with another passing wizard from Europe. According to EuroHoops.net's Nikos Varlas, the 30-year-old Serbian has his sights set on the United States, and the Minnesota Timberwolves have already made contact.
Per 1500 ESPN's Darren Wolfson, Teodosic's contact with the Wolves has been described as "Some talks, nothing more at this time." A contact of Wolfson's who's followed Teodosic characterized him as a "Great, great passer, and a leader w/ a p---k mentality. No defense"—not exactly an ideal all-around fit for the defensive-minded coaching of Tom Thibodeau.
Wolfson also apparently is floating the notion that Indy and Minnesota are discussing a CJ Miles-for-Cole-Aldrich-and-a-draft-pick deal.
Getting CJ Miles would likely be worth it.
It certainly sounds better than Cole Aldrich-and-a-draft-pick for cap space that has been speculated.
Since they've already signed Teague, that would mean Teodosic would be a bench guy, I presume.
I'm guessing they'd see him as second unit scoring and probably a small ball wing. It would probably mean no more tyus Jones, though.
Santiago to the DL with upper back pain (otherwise known as Molitor lower back pain), Busenitz recalled, 5th starter TBA.
Jorge earned another start, in my opinion.
Yes. I think he can be recalled without directly replacing Santiago because he was the 26th man on Saturday.
Card shop owner posed this question: who are the top pitchers in wins at a single stadium? In order to qualify, it couldn't be someone who played for many teams or a team that changed stadiums.
Palmer -- 134 in Memorial Stadium
Feller -- 96 Cleveland Stadium
Mathewson -- too early, can't tell
Big Train -- 173 in Griffith Stadium (maybe more, too early)
Marichal -- 122 in Candlestick
Ford -- 120 in Yankee Stadium
Only 36 percent of Bob Fellers wins came at home? Wow.
Two Cleveland ballparks (League Park 46-9)
Duh. I knew that.
I interpreted the question differently than others, trying to come up with a mental list of pitchers with most wins in each current or former ballpark.
I reapplied often, but I am the color of a lobster and it hurts wearing a shirt.
I'm actually not too bad - my shoulders apparently needed a reapplication - but Philosofette got hit pretty hard.
Angel Hernandez sues MLB over racial discrimination because he hasn't been promoted to crew-chief or been assigned a World Series recently.
I imagine MLB's lawyer spending the entire time of Hernandez's hypothetical deposition showing him video of all his botched calls and antagonizing players and managers and then asking him about it.

Naturally, Go-Go was involved.
Seems like I've seen that play (or an attempt at it) about once a game at little league this summer.
so, dump Rubio because Reasons. And now this?

I am going with
Niekro won 130 at Atlanta Fulton. I forgot Fergie's exile years from Wrigley.
Warren Span with 124 wins in County Stadium (70 more in Braves Field).
