Minor Details: Games of July 4

Justin Haley continues his rehab, but it was Nik Turley and Zack Granite who led the Red Wings.  A big day for Jonathan Rodriguez.  A long loss for the Miracle.  A good game for Eduardo Del Rosario.  The E-Twins were on the wrong end of a big inning.  Akil Baddoo was the first batter of the inning and hit a two-run walkoff homer.  Alberoni Nunez also hit a two-run walkoff homer.

ROCHESTER 5, PAWTUCKET 3 IN ROCHESTER

RBI singles by Bengie Gonzalez and Zack Granite gave the Red Wings a 2-0 lead in the second, but a two-run homer by Jantzen Witte tied it in the third.  In the fourth Granite came through again, delivering a two-run single that gave Rochester a 4-2 advantage.  A wild pitch brought home a run in the fifth to make it 5-2.  It stayed there until the ninth, when Jhonny Peralta homered.  The Red Sox did not get the tying run up to bat.

Justin Haley made a rehab appearance, pitching three innings and giving up two runs on four hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Nik Turley pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts to make his ERA with a WHIP of 1.12 and 48 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.  Granite was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and is batting .365.

CHATTANOOGA 6, TENNESSEE 5 IN CHATTANOOGA (14 INNINGS)

LaMonte Wade's two-run single in the fifth gave the Lookouts a 5-1 lead.  The Smokies came back, getting a two-run double by Yasiel Balaguert in the sixth and RBI doubles by Jason Vosler and Balaguert in the eighth to tie it up.  The last eighteen Tennessee batters were retired.  Chattanooga got three two-out walks in the thirteenth but could not score.  With two out and none on in the fourteenth, Nick Gordon singled and stole second.  Two walks filled the bases and Jonathan Rodriguez delivered an RBI single to win the game.

Kohl Stewart pitched five innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk with one strikeout.  He threw 76 pitches.  Randy Rosario pitched three perfect innings of relief to make his ERA 1.97 with a WHIP of 0.84.  Luke Bard struck out two in two perfect innings of relief.  His ERA is 2.37 with 61 strikeouts in 38 innings.  Rodriguez was 4-for-6 with a home run (his tenth), two doubles, a walk, and three RBIs.  Wade was 2-for-6 with a walk.  Gordon was 1-for-6 with a walk and is batting .307.  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-5 with two walks and is batting .300.

TAMPA 2, FORT MYERS 1 IN TAMPA (14 INNINGS)

Another fourteen inning game won by the home team.  Nick Solak hit a home run in the second to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.  It held up until the ninth, when Jermaine Palacios singled, took second on a fly out to right, and scored on a Mitchell Kranson single.  There was no more scoring until the fourteenth, when with two out and none on Gosuke Katoh homered to win the game, proving that solo home runs can hurt you.

David Fischer pitched four innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with one strikeout.  Michael Theofanopoulos struck out six in three shutout innings, giving him 45 strikeouts in 39 innings.  Sam Clay pitched four shutout innings to make his ERA 1.65.  Palacios was 2-for-6 and is batting .381.  Max Murphy was 2-for-6 and is batting .314.  Brandon Lopez was 1-for-6 and is batting .400.

WISCONSIN 2, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly, but that was as good as it got.  Devin Hairston led off the fourth with a home run to tie it.  In the ninth, Hairston walked, was bunted to second, and scored on a Tucker Neuhaus single.  Cedar Rapids did not get a hit after the seventh.

Eduardo Del Rosario pitched seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with six strikeouts.  Ben Rortvedt was 2-for-3 with a double.  Lewin Diaz was 2-for-3.

PRINCETON 6, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN ELIZABETHTON

Andrew Cosgrove singled in a run in the second and Jose Miranda homered in the fifth to give the Twins a 2-0 lead.  The Rays got on the board with one in the sixth and took control of the game with four in the eighth.  Trey Hair had a two-run double to put Princeton in the lead.  Elizabethton loaded the bases with two out in the ninth, bringing the tying run up to bat, but a ground out ended the game.

Huascar Ynoa pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  He threw 77 pitches and lowered his ERA to 2.57.  Miranda was 2-for-5 and the home run was his second.  Matt Albanese was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .368.  Cosgrove was 1-for-4 and is batting .313.

GCL TWINS 6, GCL RAYS 4 AT TWINS

Benjamin Rodriguez hit a two-run triple in the first and singled in runs in the third and fifth to give the Twins a 4-0 lead.  It looked like it might hold up, but the Rays scored four in the eighth, with Allen Smoot tying the game with a two-run single.  It went to extra innings, where both teams start with a man on second.  The Rays had their man erased on a ground ball back to the pitcher and did not score.  The first batter of the Twins tenth, Akil Baddoo, hit a two-run homer to end the game.

Zack Jones, on a rehab assignment, struck out two in a scoreless inning.  Jordan Balazovic struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks to drop his ERA to 2.89.  Jose Bermudez pitched two perfect innings to drop his ERA to 2.84.  Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs.  Alex Robles was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .429 (4-for-7).  Baddoo was 1-for-4 with a home run and is batting  .300.  Jean Carlos Arias was 0-for-3 and is batting .368.  Royce Lewis was 0-for-4 with a walk and is batting .310.  Darling Cuesto was 0-for-4 and is hitless in seven at-bats.  Emmanuel Morel was 0-for-4 and is batting .091 (1-for-11).

DSL TWINS 10, DSL YANKEES 8 AT TWINS

it was 1-0 Yankees through five.  The Yankees made four errors in the sixth inning, leading to three Twins runs.  The Twins added five in the seventh, with Francisco Martinez hitting a home run and Davinson Pimentel hitting a two-run double, to go ahead 8-1.  The Yankees came back with two in the eighth, aided by three walks and a wild pitch, and five in the ninth, helped by a two-run error, to tie it up 8-8.  Alberoni Nunez came through with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Twins.

Fredderi Soto pitched four innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  His ERA is 0.77 and his WHIP is 0.94.  Osiris German pitched three shutout innings to make his ERA 2.25.  Martinez was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second.  Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.    Nunez was 2-for-5 with a home run and a double.  Estamy Urena was 2-for-5 and is batting .386.  Samuel Vasquez was 2-for-5 and is batting .316.  Ruben Santana was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .373.  Wander Valdez was 1-for-4 with a walk and is batting .308.  Agustin Marte was 1-for-5 and is batting .326.
