Mejia time!
Good old Adalberto has the third most functional starter, and has stuck around long enough that the name "Adalberto" pops up in my phone. In other words, I'd call the Nuñez trade, if not a win, at least an even match.
Now, we get to see if he can keep the magic going against an ice cold Orioles team, anchored today by a guy who hasn't had a quality start since June 1st.
It would be nice to keep this momentum going into the all star break.
Nunez rWAR with Giants: 0.9
Mejia rWAR with Twins: 0.6
Mejia is 24 and making the minimum and the Twins control him through 2022. Nunez is 30, making $4.2M and will be a free agent at the end of the year.
I like Nunez a lot, and hope the best for him, but it was a trade that needed to be made.
He was a slightly above league-average hitter the last two years (ages 28 and 29), and is slightly below this year. And currently on the 10-day DL with a hammy.
I agree with the above. Nunez is a nice enough piece on a good team. This was a good trade.
Get Machado and get Schoop to double up? Now That's how you do up the first inning.
2 Ks in a 1-2-3 second inning. Mejia is looking good today. Only hit on a bunt single. I hope that scoring comes into play later.
Not so much anymore.
Just the second time this season Mejia has given up more than 3 runs. Should be only 3 earned runs and a quality start for Mejia, but you can't assume a double play that Escobar was trying to start when he committed the error that allowed the fourth run to score.
SANOOOOOOOOOO
The more Buxton has plate appearances like that, the more I feel like he's in the right track.
Beer and youth don't mix very well, do they?
atta boy, Castro. Now how about a little bull dozier?
Ouchies.
big K there for Mejia. Not a great outing, but not a terrible one either.
Belisle? I guess Molitor has given up on this one.
worked out okay last night
He has 14 holds and 3 blown saves, so Molitor isn't exactly averse to using him in critical situations.
1.46 Game-Entering Leverage Index (1.00 is average leverage), so yea. I don't think that's much of an endorsement, however.
-10.0 RAA. -1.0 WAR. He's a below-replacement level pitcher being put into above-average leverage situations. That's...not good.
His usage actually is kind of odd. 60 batters faced in high-leverage situations (and a very reasonable slash line allowed of 220/310/240). 68 BF in low-leverage situations and an ugly 279/353/525. And only 24 BF in medium leverage situations (a SSST but gawd-awful 350/458/700).
also, fwiw, he has an ERA of 0.00 pitching prior to the 7th inning (18 PA, including a HR allowed, so how the hell does he have a 0.00 ERA????)
It was down the right field at Yankee Stadium -- it wasn't "earned"?
Something like a two-out error followed by a home run, I would guess.
O Sqwauker calling him Buddy Bo-Sheers.
Trumbo Bo-Sheered that ball.
Pops is in town. As soon as they announced Bosheers and the first 3 hitters he was facing, I turned to him and told him Trumbo was going to hit a homer.
debut AB by The Rock
Not a bad thing, eating 11 pitches in your first at-bat.
Nice PA for the rook. Nice that the fans acknowledged it, despite the outcome.
The Oriole Way.
ends with a whoosh.
