Minor Details: Games of July 8 (Now Fully Baked!)

Aaron Slegers does well.  Lots of pitches in very few innings for Stephen Gonsalves.  Two big innings win it for Fort Myers.  Travis Blankenhorn delivers the game-winning hit for Cedar Rapids.  Solo home runs and an error win it for the E-Twins.  The GCL Twins steal a victory.  A rare loss for the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 2, SYRACUSE 0 IN ROCHESTER>

Both runs came in the fourth, as one scored on a wild pitch and the other on a triple by ByungHo Park.  The Chiefs out-hit the Red Wings 8-3.  Park's triple was the first Rochester hit of the game.

Aaron Slegers pitched 7.2 scoreless innings, giving up seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Jake Reed pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to make his ERA 1.04 with a WHIP of 0.58 in 8.2 innings.  Edgar Corcino made his AAA debut and went 0-for-3.  Ryan Strausborger was 0-for-3 and is batting .067.

TENNESSEE 5, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Lookouts led 2-0, fell behind 3-2, but then took the lead 4-3 in the sixth on RBI doubles by Carlos Paulino and Ryan Walker.  Kevin Cornelius homered in the eighth to tie it.  Three singles in the ninth brought home the go-ahead run for the Smokies.

Stephen Gonsalves took 97 pitches to get through four innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  He faced 18 batters, so he averaged nearly five and a half pitches per batter.  Raul Fernandez struck out three in three shutout innings.  Walker was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-5.  Max Murphy went 0-for-5 in his AA debut.

FORT MYERS 9, PALM BEACH 2 IN FORT MYERS

The Miracle trailed 2-0 after six but took the lead with three in the seventh.  Sean Miller drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a single.  Fort Myers then put the game out of reach with six in the eighth.  They had six hits in the inning, five of them for extra bases.  Tanner English and Jermaine Palacios each had a two-run homer in the inning.

Anthony McIver pitched four innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk with one strikeout, as they are apparently stretching him out to be a starter.  Sam Clay pitched two shutout innings to make his ERA 1.58.  English was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Jaylin Davis was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Palacios was 2-for-5 with a home run and is batting .345.  Miller was 2-for-5 with a double.  Mitchell Kranson was 2-for-5.  Brandon Lopez was 1-for-3 with two walks and is batting .350.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, PEORIA 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

In the second inning, Andre Jernigan had a two-run double followed by a Gorge Munoz two-run single to give the Kernels a 4-1 lead.  The Chiefs came back with two in the fourth and one in the sixth to tie it 4-4.  Back-to-back triples by Munoz and Aaron Whitefield put Cedar Rapids up 5-4 in the seventh, but Danny Hudzina homered in the ninth to make it 5-5.  In the bottom of the ninth, Joe Cronin hit a two-out single, stole second, and scored on a double by Travis Blankenhorn to win the game.

Griffin Jax did not match his first game of the year but still pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  His ERA is now 2.84.  Patrick McGuff retired all four men he faced.  Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double.  Gorge Munoz was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Amaurys Minier was 2-for-4 with a double.   Joe Cronin was 2-for-4 with a walk.

ELIZABETHTON 4, JOHNSON CITY 3 IN ELIZABETHTON

First-inning homers by Jose Miranda and Brent Rooker gave the Twins a 2-0 lead.  Shane Carrier homered in the fourth to make it 3-0.  The Cardinals got on the board in the seventh on an Irving Wilson home run and used three consecutive two-out singles to tie it in the eighth.  In the ninth, a walk and a single put me on first and second with none out.  A bunt followed, and when the pitcher made a wild throw the winning run scored.

Sammons struck out six in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and three walks.  He threw 69 pitches.  His ERA is now 0.96 with a WHIP of 0.96 and 15 strikeouts in 9.1 innings.  Blair Lasko pitched 1.1 scoreless innings.  Rooker was 3-for-4 with a home run (his fifth) and a double.  Carrier was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Miranda was 1-for-4 with a home run and is batting .306.  Matt Albanese was 0-for-4 and is batting .333.

GCL TWINS 3, GCL RED SOX 0 AT TWINS

Akil Baddoo led off the game with a single, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Colton Burns single to give the Twins a 1-0 lead.  In the fourth Burns singled, stole second and third, and scored on an Alex Robles single to make it 2-0.  In the seventh, Jean Carlos Arias singled and advanced to second on a hit batsman.  A double steal made it second and third and a wild pitch made the score 3-0.  As first reported by socaltwinsfan, the Twins had seven stolen bases.  They came off three different pitchers (4-2-1) and two different catchers (4-3), so it's hard to blame any one person.

Tyler Beardsley pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.  His ERA remains at zero with a WHIP of 0.80 in five innings.  Taylor Clemensia struck out three in three shutout innings.  He also walked five, but his ERA is now 1.80 in five innings.  Austin Bizzle pitched two shutout innings, giving him both an ERA and a WHIP of zero in 2.2 innings.  Vadim Balan pitched a scoreless inning, so his ERA remains at zero with a WHIP of 0.65 in 7.2 innings.  Burns was 2-for-3 with a walk and is batting .310.  Robles was 1-for-4 and is batting .351.  Royce Lewis was 1-for-4 and is batting .317.  Baddoo was 1-for-4 and is batting .302.  Emmanuel Morel was 0-for-2 with a walk and is batting .077.  Jared Akins was 0-for-2 with a walk and is batting .067.  Darling Cuesto was 0-for-2 with a walk and is hitless in nine at-bats.

DSL METS1 4, DSL TWINS 3 AT METS1

The Twins got two in the fifth to go ahead 2-1, but the Mets1 came back with three in the seventh to go into the lead to stay.  Sebastian Espino had a two-run triple to bring in the go-ahead runs.  The Twins got one back in the ninth and had men on first and second with two out, but a ground out ended the game.

Michael Montero struck out five in 4.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and three walks.  Cristian Castro struck out two in a scoreless inning.  Ruben Santana was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .349.  Estamy Urena was 0-for-2 and is batting .364.  Agustin Marte was 0-for-2 and is batting .319.  Juan Martinez was 0-for-2 with two walks and is batting .313.  Wander Valdez was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .311.  Mariano Calcano was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .300.  Yeremi De La Cruz was 0-for-3 and remains hitless in five at-bats.
