(Yes, I'll add a stupid stock photo to each post that deserves one)
We've had some good conversations in the past couple days about casting a wider net to snag more users. My original idea of asking HomerDome to post a little bit more seems insufficient.
Anyway, we're working on a Bookface page. Once it's up and running (very soon), perhaps share it every now and then to snag some folk? We're kind of a specific niche, but I'm guessing everyone knows someone that falls into it.
Also, I believe pretty much everyone has posting privileges (if you don't seem to, let us know). As mentioned before, if you ever have an idea, go ahead and toss it up. We'll work to promote it.
Beyond that, if anyone has ideas, we'd love to hear them.
we're not snagging "users", we're snagging "Citizens" :/
Yesterday we toured a townhome with Runner daughter; it's a nice foreclosure with plenty of space for her, but I have a feeling there's going to be bidding, and while she has some leeway, it's not a whole lot.
Church had a game night last night, which had light attendance but was good for the first time they tried it. I played I Hate Zombies, an easy game using cards and rock/paper/scissors, and Nuns on the Run, which was entertaining and easy enough to play. Among other games there that people brought, I saw the Oregon Trail card game, and hopefully next time (whenever that will be) we'll give Forbidden Desert a whirl. We're kind of limited on time and playing ability with this format; a few other tables were playing Risk, Rummikub, and dominoes.
Nice! Always enjoying hearing people getting into board games. I enjoyed Nuns on the Run. My favorite experience was playing this with a friend and 5 kids (a mix of his and mine). We originally set out to both play the guards, but halfway through I decided he was doing well enough and ended up helping the kids out more. If you like that hidden move mechanic, I suggest checking out Last Friday. Similar idea, but with a Friday the 13th theme.
Forbidden Dessert is fun, but hard! I always play on easy, and still don't win more than half the time.
On this subject, I recently acquired Terraforming Mars, which is my new favorite game. Great economy building game, working with the other players to Terraform the planet Mars for habitation, but competitive in terms of who can do it best (aka, score Terraform Rating or Victory Points). Great solo mode as well. I also just ordered Concordia, FINALLY! Had this on my radar back in December, and if finally got back in stock.
If you have suggestions for games which aren't too complex that can work in a 3-ish hour time frame, I'd love to have those passed along for the next time we do this. Thanks!
Depends on what type of game you're looking for.
Ticket to Ride is a classic
Codenames is a fun party style game. Playing in teams
King of Tokyo (or King of New York) is also a pretty light game that can be played quickly.
My preferred strategy type games that play in an hour or two: Castles of Burgundy, Lords of Waterdeep, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Stone Age, Dominion, Clank!
For a group that broke out Risk, Rummikub, and dominoes, I'd echo that something like Ticket to Ride and Codenames could be good, and maybe would be a more natural fit than some of the others that have less familiar elements? There's probably some prejudices being exposed by my comment here... I'd think TransEuropa and/or TransAmerica would be quick easy games too. And really, Settlers is well enough known in general now that you could find a fit there perhaps.
When my brother came to Minnesota last month, we played Pandemic (we won...on the easiest level...on the last possible turn), Codenames, and Ticket to Ride.
Man, it would be fun to play board games more often.
I propose a board game caucus.
Sounds great. We'll host it in Chicago.
Some of my friends are hosting one in Madison next Sunday. The last time we got together we played Betrayal at the House on the Hill and Secret Hitler. And a bunch of crokinole because its Canadian as hell and we're all curlers. Not sure what's gonna be there on Sunday, though. I'm hoping we get enough to play Captain Sonar because I missed the night they did that and was told it was a ton of fun.
Sweet, that's within reasonable range!
Oh, and Captain Sonar... so much fun. I want to play that again.
some cool news for bears.

One of my new favorite photographs:
Took me a second, but that's amazing.
Occasionally if I see a whiteboard or chalkboard I'll write, near to the right-hand side of the board "Plan Ahea" in such a way that there's no room for the "d".
This is a much cooler version of that gag.
And now I see Zombieman has posted this same "plan ahead" thing on facebook...
That article was the source
Craig Sager.
Aw, I made myself sad.
I could see Bert wearing it as a gag. It'd be awesome if he wore it for the '87 WS reunion weekend.
Anybody have any interest in going to the Twins game tomorrow? Legends Club. Opportunity to take pictures with a dozen different '87 Twins. Cost is 1 beer of my choice at game.
aw, dude! π
Cost is 1 beer plus travel costs.
right?
Friday right? I'll go,
Sounds good. Where/when do you want to meet?
It's your gig you tell me when and where. Gate 14,seems to have less crowds. Also if I ride my bike, I'll park near there. Weather looking iffy for bike ride however. I don't seem to have your contact information anymore.
Just sent you info on FB messenger.
I'm looking forward to your picture with Chris Pittaro and Jeff Bittiger!
I really want to have Roy Smalley sign the Halloween picture of me dressed as him as a kid.
That would be amazing.

Looks up season stats
It's always so sad when a great player slumps coming off an injury.
ICYMI, I enjoyed this article on Kintzler.
With Sam Dyson mentioned, I decided to look up how he's doing with the Giants. Basically the same as he was last year.
Oh, HA! I just connected this article to this comment from yesterday.
Dyson's split with SF is basically the same as his performance last year, true.
I've seen several of his appearances. Giants have been working hard to get him back in the groove, after he was horrrrrrible early in the year.
He got hit hard in his first appearance after the trade, on June 11 (3 runs on 2 hits and a walk), but has only one really bad outing otherwise.
Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington dead at 41
Damn. Not recently, but I'll readily admit to repeated listens of their first three albums and Reanimation.
Leaves behind 6 kids ... ugh.
Dido to all of this.
My Mother-in-law was a big fan back when they had the most fans.
for reasons not worth explaining here, I fell down a rabbit hole to find this: Was Hari Seldon Pulling Our Leg?
I really should read those books again.
At the All-Star break, the Twins were 2.5 games back and were facing series with the Astros and Yankees. The Twins not only survived by splitting those 6 games, they actually gained 2 games in the standings. As far as a difficult schedule, the Twins have the 3 games with the Dodgers and then have no series with first-place teams until their final 3 games with the Indians in their next-to-last series of the season, so they don't really have a daunting schedule ahead. In baseball, that means far less than in other sports, but it still could be a factor, considering how badly the Twins fared against the Astros and Red Sox.
Can't be any worse than trotting Gibson out there every five days.
Or Bartolo Colon. However, much depends on what they have to give up to get him.
Maybe the Twins will trade Gibson tot he Braves!
Done. They may be getting another player too.
