I like these Friars fauxbacks better than their regular uniforms, but not enough to stop saying #BringBacktheBrown.
I was told to stay away last night, and you saw how that worked out, so I'll be around today, at least for a while.
Stay as long as you can bear it.
cool!
Cool bear:
Yes!
Sometimes I think Buxton would do better if everyone would stop giving him advice and tell him to just go up there and hit whatever way feels best to him.
You're channelling Dazzle.
Well, whatever he's doing since the beginning of July, it's working.
DL?
Other than that.
If we're going to use the "highway metaphor," I want all the Twins' hitters on 694.
What happened on the Mauer out? Trying to score on a wildish pitch?
I wasn't watching. That's what it looks like on Gameday.
Yes, but it was a very wild pitch. Good play by the catcher & pitcher to get him at the plate.
Big Erv with the big knock!
Big Erv comes through with the big hit!
Well, that IBB backfired.
Pitcher RsBI!
The Magic Man shaming the rest of the Twins' situational hitting. That, folks, is why you put the ball in play.
EE with a big 1B!
Good things happen when Joe gets on base*
*except when they don't
Nobody bothered to tell Kepler to take a pitch. Not much of a break for Santana in the dugout.
Not that he worked all that hard in the first inning.
Dazzle, I quite sure the Twins will continue to try to score runs. If only it was as easy to do as it is to say.
If the Twins lose this game, they will have to allow at least 5 runs, but the offense will be blamed for not adding runs (assuming they don't score any more).
Curious that Bert would schedule a vacation when the Twins were in his backyard. You'd think he'd rather miss a trip to Detroit & Cleveland or something.
I thought Bert lived in Florida now.
Huh. For some reason I thought he was still somewhere in the Los Angeles area.
He's originally from SoCal, hence his reference to "California math." I think he lives in the Ft. Myers area to make it close for spring training and also probably to take advantage of no income taxes.
Garden Grove vs. Ft. Myers? No brainer.
My guess is Bert could probably afford to move out of Garden Grove. I can't imagine choosing Florida over California...
I can.
I knew he & his family settled in Garden Grove after leaving the Netherlands. Somehow I'd gotten it in my head that he still lived in Southern California in the off-season.
Pretty good first run through the order. 0 for 9 with 5 Ks
Hopefully, he continues to get more hits than he allows.
Nuts.
I wonder what Erv's ERA would be if he could keep the ball in the park.
Lower.
Really? Thanks!
Well, that's just an educated guess -- I didn't run the numbers
I think it just come with the last name of Santana.
Higher, actually. Home runs kill rallies.
Coming into this game, he allowed 36 runs on 23 HRs. Assuming all those are earned runs his "no runs allowed on HRs" ERA would roughly be 0.99 .
If he didn't actually tag the runner, Mauer certainly sold that play.
That's how you add on a run!
Whoa! That first pitch was NOT a strike.
Let it Sanó!
I love it when Dazzle says "He goat-headed it".
It's August. We ought to know the signs by now.
Odds that Polanco missed the sign on that play? Very high
How did Polanco miss a sign? He attempted to bunt and missed it. Rosario wasn't running, so if anything, Rosario missed a sign. Did I miss something? Of course, Rosario did the absolute worst thing in base running, which is not only did he not run on the squeeze attempt, he got too far off the base and still was thrown out.
Also, it was a bad decision to give away 2 outs with a three-run lead. The difference between a 3-run lead and a 4-run lead as far as win expectancy is very little. Just let Buxton and Polanco hit and go for the big inning.
According to Dazzle, Polanco did not attempt to bunt it, but rather pulled the bat back. I do agree that the bunts were not the best percentage play.
TWINS BASEBALL!!
Assuming he gets through this inning, I wonder how low Santana's pitch count needs to be to at least start the ninth inning. I would say it can't be more than 105.
He's at 101, according to espn.com. I would pull him. No, his arm won't fall off if he pitches the ninth, but if we're going to try to develop a closer, this is the perfect time to start.

I still love complete games.
I'm headed for home. Bring this one in, boys!
Smell baseball!
Easy.
