Minor Details: Games of August 1

Only two hits for Rochester.  Zach Littell makes his debut for Chattanooga.  Jaylin Davis delivers the big hit for Fort Myers.  A walkoff passed ball wins it for Cedar Rapids.  A walkoff single wins it for Elizabethton.  A split for the GCL Twins.

LEHIGH VALLEY 3, ROCHESTER 1 IN ROCHESTER

ByungHo Park singled home a run in the first, but Andrew Pullin tied it with a home run in the second.  It stayed 1-1 until the sixth, when the IronPigs scored two to take their first lead of the game.  The Red Wings did not get a baserunner after the third inning.

D. J. Baxendale struck out three in three innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.98.  Mason Melotakis pitched a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 1.38.  Michael Tonkin struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.78 with 44 strikeouts in 30.1 innings.  Rochester had just two hits, both singles.

MONTGOMERY 6, CHATTANOOGA 5 IN MONTGOMERY (10 INNINGS)

The Biscuits scored three in the first, but the Lookouts came back with four in the second.  Montgomery tied it in the sixth and took a 5-4 lead in the eighth on a Justin Williams home run.  Carlos Paulino doubled home a run in the ninth to tie it 5-5.  Chattanooga got the go-ahead run to third with two out in the tenth, but did not score.  In the bottom of the tenth, Michael Russell delivered a bloop single to right to score the winning run.

Zack Littell struck out six in six innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks in his Lookouts debut.  Paulino was 4-for-5 with a double and is batting .375.  T. J. White was 2-for-5 with a home run, his tenth.  Max Murphy was 2-for-5 with a double.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a walk and is batting .317.  Levi Michael was 2-for-6 with a double and is 14-for-35 (.400) in his last seven games.  Andy Wilkins was 2-for-6.

FORT MYERS 6, CLEARWATER 4 IN CLEARWATER

The Threshers led 3-1 after four and 4-2 after six.  The Miracle took the lead with a three-run eighth, with Jaylin Davis singling home the tying and go-ahead runs.  Jermaine Palacios delivered an RBI triple to score an insurance run in the ninth.

Eduardo Del Rosario was not nearly as good in his second high-A start but he still pitched six innings, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts to make his ERA 2.57 with a WHIP of 0.64.  Alex Robinson struck out two in a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 2.16 with 16 strikeouts in 8.1 innings.  Sam Clay pitched two shutout innings to lower his ERA to 1.29 with 56 strikeouts in 56 innings.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, CLINTON 7 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (11 INNINGS)

Christian Cavaness led off the bottom of the first with a home run and Caleb Hamilton hit a two-run homer later in the inning to give the Kernels a 3-0 lead.  They took a 6-1 lead into the seventh, but Luis Rengifo hit a two-run double to cut the margin to 6-3 and Dimas Ojeda hit a two-run double in a three-run eighth to tie it 6-6.  Each team scored a run in the ninth.  in the eleventh, Joe Cronin doubled, went to third on an error, and scored on a passed ball to win the game.

Tyler Beardsley pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Max Cordy pitched two shutout innings.  Cavaness was 3-for-5 with a home run (his fifth), a double, and a walk.  Travis Blankenhorn was 3-for-5 with a triple and two doubles.  Lewin Diaz was 2-for-5.  Jimmy Kerrigan was 2-for-6.

ELIZABETHTON 5, KINGSPORT 4 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins scored two in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.  It held up until the eighth, when the Mets got three consecutive two-out RBI hits to go ahead 4-3.  In the ninth, a walk, a single, and a bunt put men on second and third with two out.  A sacrifice fly tied the game and Ariel Montesino singled home the winning run.

Nick Brown struck out six in 5.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on six hits and no walks.  Wander Javier was 2-for-4 with a double.  Montesino was 2-for-4.  Jose Miranda was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .325.  Rainis Silva was 0-for-3 and is batting .308.  Mark Contreras was 1-for-4 and is batting .300.

GCL TWINS 5, GCL RAYS 3 AT TWINS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Benjamin Rodriguez doubled home a run in the third to give the Twins a 2-1 lead.  In the fourth, Victor Tademo homered and Jean Carlos Arias delivered a two-run single to make it 5-1.  The Rays scored single runs in the sixth and seventh, bringing the tying run up to bat in both innings.

Twins starter Landon Leach, making his professional debut, pitched just two-thirds of an inning, giving up an unearned run on no hits and two walks with one strikeout.  I do not have an explanation for the short start.  Pedro Garcia then pitched five innings, giving up one run on one hit and four walks with four strikeouts to make his ERA 2.90 with a WHIP of 0.84.  Emmanuel Morel was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring three times.  He is batting .320.  Alex Robles was 1-for-3 and is batting .323.  Kerby Camacho was 1-for-3 with a double and is batting .321.  Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with a double and is batting .318.  Royce Lewis was 0-for-3 and is batting .311.  Colton Burns was 0-for-3 and is batting .303.

GCL RAYS 2, GCL TWINS 0 AT RAYS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Rays got three consecutive one-out doubles in the fifth to score both of their runs.  The first ten Twins were retired and only once did they advance a man as far as second base.

Derek Molina pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.  His ERA remains at zero with four strikeouts in four innings.  The Twins had just three hits, all singles.  Alex Robles was 1-for-3 and is batting .324.  Benjamin Rodriguez was 1-for-3 and is batting .318.  Emmanuel Morel was 0-for-3 and is batting .302.  Royce Lewis was 0-for-3 and is batting .302.
