  1. I don't know if this has ever been mentioned before, but the Washington Post ran a podcast called "Presidential" in the run-up to the 2016 election. Each episode focuses on one of the presidents. I'm currently at #22 (and #24) Grover Cleveland. Good stuff. Apparently, they have been doing one this year on the Constitution. I'll be listening to that after this one.

      1. That song got played. I knew a little about JKP before. His treatment was interesting. They basically said that he was very effective in implementing his agenda because he wasn't afraid to lie.

        1. The one story I still remember from our tour of the west wing was how JKP's wife had the band play a certain song when he entered the room, because he wasn't a tall man and she was disappointed that people didn't notice when he showed up.

      1. The woman who does them is pretty good, but she has this gimmick where she asks her guests whether she would like to go on a blind date with each president. I guess it is a way to talk about the president's personality and looks, but I kind of wish she had left that out. I don't think it would be an appropriate way to talk about a female president, if we had ever had one, but, newsflash, we've never had one. Other than that, though, they are pretty interesting.

Jefferson Davis' father in law was Zachary Taylor.

          1. These are from last year, but there've been a few where she's kind of softened that question and she just said that some of her listeners told her to ditch it while liked it. It's not a great touch.

            1. At least the Clinton answer would be foreshadowed by the answer on JFK. Taft seems like another guy whose appearance makes this question less than well considered. It'd be so easy to ask "Would you go to dinner with..." instead of the blind date thing, which seems more salacious in its implication.

  2. Don't look now, but Buxton's within shouting distance of a 20-homer season. He reached 16 yesterday and has been hitting a homer every 14.9 at bats in the second half.

    1. I find it pretty interesting that the Twins have 8 players in double digit home runs, and most likely will end up with 10 or 11. We may also see 6 Twins with over 20 home runs and possibly 3 with 30.

I can't get KFAN up here yet, but word is that is changing soon. I have been interested to find out what Barrerio is saying about Mr Mauer right now. When Joe hit his grand slam yesterday, I may have yelled out "suck it Dan!" Mauer just seems to be seeing the ball so well right now. He is pretty close to his career average in most hitting stats.

      1. They've hit 193 home runs. They hit 200 last year, which ranks third in Twins history. It's a big jump to number two with 221 in 1964.

  3. Oy. CCleaner app hacked. Now I gotta go check my phone to see which version I have. I know I updated it recently (and the prior version was like a year old because I hadn't used it in a very long time).

    1. Yeah, I'll have to write an email about this for my org today. Luckily (sarcasm) I had the whole Equifax thing already, so there aren't a lot of topics I didn't cover. I don't really understand the draw of programs like CCleaner, but I'm guessing more people use it than I think.

      1. looks like I don't have it on my PC. The version on my Android phone is 1.20.86 (from August), which appears not to be affected. Or at least is not part of the alert.

  5. Southwest was a delight, Rhu_Ru, even with my grumbles about the marketing claims on in-seat charging. I lucked into A group in one of my four flights and was a solid low B in the other three.

SMF impressed me as a nice, modern airport in my first visit. I'm always struck by how dated and drab PHX Sky Harbor seems for a place with such abundant light & a unique color palate. LAX, however, remains a terrible facility for human cargo people.

    1. Yeah, they are what they are.

I'm going to see what Buffalo has for an airport next week. Also, we change planes at Midway, so Mrs. Runner's first time there. I like how you can read the gas prices on the pumps as you near touch down.

      1. I flew out of Buffalo once when I lived there. I was a solid mid-market airport, fairly newish. Nothing that'll set the world on fire, but not a craphole either.

    2. I flew delta through Atlanta, and it was not as bad as I was expecting. Actually, the delta experience was pretty alright.

  6. It was pretty obnoxious for the Twins to play the hockey goal horn sound everytime they scored against Toronto. Why are they antagonizing our friendly neighbors to the north?

    1. Well they started it during Wild night against the Padres and the Twins scored 16 runs. I think they kept doing because "luck."

          1. In Indy for the Railway Interchange. There was talk of St. Elmo's tonight, but the sales guy juuuust couldn't pull off a last minute reservation for 15 to the most famous restaurant in town...

      1. Oh, I had no idea of the context (and don't remember hearing it on Wednesday), but it seemed like an unnecessary antagonism towards Toronto.

        1. We have a maple tree in the front yard, which is losing branches, and therefore ejecting millions of helicopters (samaras), which in my low-cut ground cover produce a lot of young maple trees. You have to pull them out by their roots, which I do with a pliers. After my steadfast harvest this last summer, NBBW got me a Toronto Maple Leafs hoodie. Awesome, but I get a lot of looks when I shop at Whole Foods (what the hey? what is a Maple Leaf?)

  7. A few very stressful weeks come to a head today as my wife's job is officially over. Long story. It'll be a positive change, but we'll be on edge for a month or two unless the TV show is finally nailed down.

  8. Sheenie graduated from the SBG School of Law ten years ago this week. Her commencement speaker was some guy from Lockheed Martin who we all instantly forgot... until now when one of her classmates looked at the program and noticed he was

    1. This is pretty cool actually. I have no recollection of who spoke at my graduation from the institution.

      1. Concur on the coolness. I... can recall who spoke at my law school graduation.

        1. Mine was Eric Holder.

          1. I have no idea who my law school graduation speaker may have been. I don't remember my college graduation speaker or my seminary graduation speaker, either. My high school graduation speaker was Bill Janklow, who was then the state Attorney General and later became governor.

            1. Ours might have been the retir[ed/ing] seargant-at-arms of the House of Representatives. I don't remember anything... my roommate (class pres.) gave a speech in which he mentioned my cooking habits though.
I did get to hear Nobel Laureates Jorge Ramos-Horta and folks from the International Campaign to Ban Landmines at different points as an undergraduate, though.

            1. I skipped my college graduation. I had to drop off some paperwork at the school office, so I was doing it on the day of. My graduation ceremony was just about to end, apparently, and I turned a corner to find a line of professors in their robes about to congratulate the graduates that were about to come out of the auditorium. There was no other quick way to get to the office, so I had to walk down the middle (I believe this was in between Phelps and the PAC for all you WSUers).

One sarcastic professor started applauding me, and then all the others joined in. Guess I went to my ceremony after all.
