Starting pitcher gives up 3 in the first inning of a Wild Card game, what can go wrong?
Now a fourth run and Greinke had been perfect through seven batters.
I just got here, but I see the Rockies are already on their third pitcher in the third inning. That's usually not a positive thing.
Lynx up 41-35 over LA at the half.
66-59 lynx lead with 8 minutes to go. LA starting the fourth in complete disarray. If the lynx can stay focused, they'll go against the Minnesota sports grain.
Roxtober is going to last 1 game.
At least the Twins were in the game for a while. The Rockies are getting blown out early.
On the board!
And now all of a sudden the Rockies aren't getting blown out any more.
Here they come!
DBacks CFer has got to replace his Hrbek sized divot.
Greinke's 3.2 innings was the longest outing by a SP during these opening WC games. Ouch
Last year the shortest start was 4.1 innings by Chris Tillman. Bumgarner had a shutout and Syndergaard went seven innings.
Wow.
Doesn't seem too smart to use your best two starters when you already have the lead.
This managing tactic is going to become a meme, isn't it?
I get that it's an elimination game and so you do whatever you have to do to win it and worry about the next game when it gets here. Having said all that, I think there's also an extent to which you have to trust the people you used all season.
edit: edit
Lynx nearly blow a 10-point lead in the final 2 minutes, but hold on to win the title. Sylvia Fowles wins MVP with 20 rebounds in Game 5 to set a WNBA Finals record for one game.
"Blow" the lead seems strong. LA was doing their damndest to take it.
No. Lynx were falling apart against trapping defense. It shouldn't have been that difficult. They just had to avoid turnovers and not fouling on shot attempts.
Wonder why they kept electing to advance the ball out of the timeouts and boxing themselves into the corner on the inbounds pass.
I think its the rule now. End of game TO, ball goes to half court
"No." !?! You do realize there was another championship-winning team out there playing some pretty solid trap defense. There were self inflicted turnovers to be sure, and the Lynx could have done more to adjust after the first trap resulted in a turnover, but let's not act like they were unopposed on the parquet.
Oh man, did I start to worry there for a second. What an exciting game though!
Lynx. WNBA CHAMPIONS!!!!
Can you say "Dynasty!?!"
Neshek time.
Can take the Neshek off the Twins, but not the Twin out of Neshek apparently.
Seriously?
Ouch. Prior to this game, Neshek had a career 2.61 ERA and 0.58! WHIP in 13 career postseason games.
late to this, but had to refind the image
RHB had a .486 OPS against Neshek this year.
Im surprised they are pitching to Lucroy. He's smoked the ball all over the park all night.
What do I know? haha
Rox are not going quietly.
Bradley barely avoids giving up more runs than he drove in.
And the Snakes bite back.
Two bunts that drive in runs in the same game. That has to be a rarity.
Somebody check on Gordo to see if he's still breathing.
