Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of October 12

Twins batters combine to go 0-for-12.  Tom Hackimer is the pitching star.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

GLENDALE 8, SURPRISE 2 IN GLENDALE

Twins:  Chris Paul was 0-for-4.  LaMonte Wade was 0-for-4.  Tom Hackimer pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.

Will Smith (Dodgers) hit a two-run triple in a three-run first and Surprise led all the way.  Matt Beaty (Dodgers) was 3-for-5 with a double.  Dylan Covey (White Sox) pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks and striking out two.

PEORIA 10, MESA 9 IN MESA

Peoria led 10-4, going to the bottom of the eighth, but Mesa got five to cut the lead to 10-9 and had the tying run on first before having their last four batters retired.  Eric Filia (Seattle) was 3-for-4 and Austin Riley (Atlanta) was 3-for-5 with a home run to led Peoria.

SCOTTSDALE 8, SALT RIVER 0 IN SALT RIVER

Scottsdale got two in the third and led all the way.  Joan Gregorio (San Francisco) pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks while striking out one.  Estevan Florial (Yankees) was 4-for-5.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Leonardo Reginatto was 0-for-4 with a walk for Margarita.  Nick Greenwood struck out five in four innings, but allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits and no walks for Anzoategui.

MAGALLANES 6, ZULIA 5 IN ZULIA (17 INNINGS)

Zulia scored one in the sixth to tie it 5-5 and no one scored for the next ten innings.  Magallanes won on a single, two walks, and a sacrifice fly.  The teams combined to use twenty-one pitchers.  Ronny Cedeno led Magallanes, going 3-for-7 with a double.

MARGARITA 10, ANZOATEGUI 1 IN ANZOATEGUI

Margarita scored four in the first and led all the way.  Raul Rivas was 3-for-5 for Margarita.  Omar Poveda struck out six in four innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

LARA 5, LA GUIARA 0 IN LARA

Cesar Jimenez pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks while striking out three.  Adam Law was 3-for-4 and Elvis Escobar was 3-for-5, all for Lara.

ARAGUA 4, CARACAS 1 IN CARACAS

Carlos Arroyo was 3-for-3 to lead Aragua.  Stephen Perakslis pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

JALISCO 7, MAZATLAN 6 IN JALISCO

Jalisco had leads of 4-0 and 7-3, but had to hold on for the win.  Art Charles was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer.  Octavio Acosta pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with no strikeouts.

MEXICALI 6, LOS MOCHIS 5 IN LOS MOCHIS

Mexicali scored five in the fifth and led all the way, but Los Mochis put men on first and third in the ninth before going down.  Yuniesky Betancourt was 3-for-5 to lead Mexicali.  Sergio Mitre struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk.

HERMOSILLO 9, OBREGON 2 IN OBREGON

It was 2-2 after seven, but Alejandro Flores hit a two-run homer in the eighth and Hermosillo put it away with five in the ninth.  Flores was 3-for-5 and also had a double.  Hunter Dozier was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer for Hermosillo.  Casey Coleman struck out nine in 5.2 innings for Hermosillo, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk.

CULIACAN 7, NAVOJOA 5 IN NAVOJOA (SEVEN-PLUS INNINGS)

Culican built a 6-0 lead before a five-run seventh got Navojoa back into the game.  Issmael Salas singled home a run for Culiacan in the eighth, then the game was rained out.  Sebastian Elizalde was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk.  D'Arby Myers was 3-for-5 with a walk.
