Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of November 16

The Arizona Fall League ends and the Australian League begins.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Twins:  Chris Paul was 2-for-5.  Sean Miller was 1-for-4.  Tyler Jay pitched one inning, giving up a run on two hits while striking out one.  Tom Hackimer pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit.

SURPRISE 10, MESA 5 IN MESA

Surprise scored three in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.  It was 5-2 after six, but Surprise scored five in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Brett Sullivan (Tampa Bay) was 3-for-5.  Brandon Lowe (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a triple.  Tyler Davis (Texas) pitched four innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks while striking out one.  Kody Eaves (Detroit) was 2-for-5 with a home run, his third, for Mesa.

GLENDALE 11, SALT RIVER 3 IN SALT RIVER

Glendale scored three in the first to take the lead.  It was 5-3 after seven, but Glendale scored three in the eighth and three in the ninth.  Cornelius Randolph (Philadelphia) was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk.  Logan Hill (Pittsburgh) was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  Danny Mendick (White Sox) was 3-for-5.  For Salt River, Braxton Lee (Miami) was 3-for-5.

PEORIA 7, SCOTTSDALE 4 IN PEORIA

Peoria scored two in each of the first two innings to take a 4-1 lead.  It was 4-3 after seven, but Peoria scored three in the eighth.  Eric Filia (Seattle) was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Alex Jackson (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with a double.

This concludes the Arizona Fall League regular season.  Mesa will play Peoria in the championship game Saturday.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

ANZOATEGUI 5, MAGALLANES 4 IN MAGALLANES

With the score tied 4-4, Luis Domoromo singled home Tomas Telis to give Anzoategui the lead.  Rene Reyes was 3-for-4 with a walk.  For Magallanes, Jesus Valdez was 3-for-4 with a double and Juan Apodaca was 3-for-4.

LA GUAIRA 6, MARGARITA 5 IN MARGARITA

La Guaira trailed 2-0, 3-1, and 4-3, but Jose Gomez hit a three-run homer in the eighth to give La Guaira a 6-4 lead and they did not give up that lead.  Jose Castillo was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer.  For Margarita, Leonardo Reginatto was 3-for-5 and Mauricio Ramos hit a home run, his second.

CARACAS 4, ARAGUA 2 IN CARACAS

Caracas scored two in the third and led 4-0 after four.  Felix Perez hit a two-run homer, his third.  Dylan Unsworth struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up three hits.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

LOS MOCHIS 12, JALISCO 2 IN JALISCO

Los Mochis scored two in the first, five in the third, and three in the fifth to build a 10-0 lead.  Noel Cuevas was 4-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Juan Carlos Gamboa was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs.  Ramon Urias hit a home run.  Jonathan Castellanos pitched six innings, giving up two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out four.  For Jalisco, Manny Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer (his sixth) and a walk.

OBREGON 2, NAVOJOA 1 IN NAVOJOA (11 INNINGS)

Emmanuel Avila's RBI double scored Eduardo Arredondo with the go-ahead run.  Yosmany Guerra hit a home run for the other Obregon run.  Irwin Delgado struck out six in six innings, giving up four hits.  For Navojoa, Tyler Kane pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and six walks while striking out two.

MEXICALI 5, CULIACAN 1 IN CULIACAN

A three-run third put Mexicali up 4-0.  Luis Juarez was 3-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Sergio Mitre (remember him?) struck out eight in seven innings, giving up one run on eight hits.

HERMOSILLO 4, MAZATLAN 2 IN MAZATLAN

Domonic Brown hit a three-run homer in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie.  It was his fifth home run of the season.  Ryan Verdugo pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  None.

LICEY 2, ESCOGIDO 0 IN LICEY (6 INNINGS--RAIN)

It was scoreless through five.  With two out in the sixth, Yamaico Navarro hit a two-run single for the only runs of the game.  The next batter was retired and the game was halted after that.  Esmil Rogers struck out seven in a complete game, giving up four hits and a walk.  Mike Mayers also pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out three.

ESTRELLAS 8, AGUILAS 3 AT ESTRELLAS

The Estrellas scored five in the second to take a 5-0 lead.  The Aguilas cut the lead to 5-3, but the Estrellas scored three in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Gabriel Guerrero was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Misael Silverio pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and a walk while striking out two.  For the Aguilas, Zoilo Almonte was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Pedro Severino hit a two-run homer.

AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Aaron Whitefield (Brisbane) was 3-for-5 with a double.  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.

BRISBANE 8, CANBERRA 5 IN BRISBANE

It was tied 1-1, 3-3, and 4-4.  In the bottom of the seventh, two-run singles by Wade and Adam Weisenburger made it 8-4 and this time they held the lead.  In addition to Whitefield and Wade. T. J. Bennett hit a home run.  Ryan Bollinger struck out nine in 5.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk.  For Canberra, David Kandilas hit a two-run homer and Kyle Perkins also hit a home run.
