Voyager I (in a fascinating bit of engineering) just cranked up some thrusters that have been dormant for 37 years to help extend its ability to correct its broadcasting position.
What doodad/thingie/tool/engine/machine has far outlasted its warranty in your home?
Do trombones have warranties?
On my way shortly to Wichita, KS and Las Vegas on my Keepin' the SWA A-List Tour.
Dwight D Eisenhower Airport in Wichita (ITA) : clean, roomy, and quiet; accessible outlets and lots of them; Chick-fil-A and Dunkin Donuts; food area floors could use sweeping; fair to above average restrooms. 4½ stars
Next stop - Sin City
McCarren International in Las Vegas (LAS) - spread out with not enough moving walkways if you need to get from one concourse to another in a hurry; Google God I'm surprised they don't have slots on the jet way before you even enter the airport proper; plenty of food choices and a plethora of lounges - no lizards sighted; gates are busy and could use a good vacuuming. 3½ stars
Next stop - home cookin'
BPB's tribute to Voyager I...
"Your strength inspires others"
I bought my lawnmower, an MTD Yard Machine mulcher/bagger, 23 years ago and I still use it today. The throttle cable is broken so I just wired it in full open position and let 'er rip. The spark plug cable serves as the ignition switch, unplug to turn off, and I'm on my third or fourth blade now, but it's the Energizer Bunny of mowers.
I have been using a Brill reel mower for 18 years. With my surgery, the Mrs has been complaining about how hard it is to push (needs sharpening, and my local shop has never sharpened the blades to anything like that original sharpness). So we bought Ryobi cordless electric. It gets assembled and charged today or tomorrow.
Our Toro push mower is going on 27 years now...
My pickup turned 50 this year. I’m afraid to mention anything more essential, lest I jinx myself.
Better stock up
I wonder how many of those it would take to make a new rear main seal.
Only four blades? Holy crap. I don't have a grinder so I end up replacing mine almost every year (effing rocks, man).
Other than that, though, its been ten years and I've only had to replace a wheel.
I've had good success using a bastard file. I have a second set of blades anyway so I can swap between them and it was useful as a gauge of how sharp to get them. Doing it by hand only takes about 20 minutes and that's with the mower using two blades. I have a new mower that will eventually get the same treatment next year.
Mike Quade is not coming back as Rochester manager in 2018. It sounds like it was his decision to leave, not the Twins'.
Jake Mauer going to take over?
Here's some news mixed with speculation about Twins minor league managers.
