December 17, 2017: A Spectacular Failure

Looks like the Vikes clinch the North with a win or tie today. Regardless, the postseason is within reach.

What grade of failure are we in for this year? Just going to fizzle out? Or crank it up to Epic and take it all the way to the Bank only to blow it in one of an infinite number of strangely imaginative scenarios?

Edge of my seat, friends.

  1. The dread pirate and I discussed several of the possible epic failures, but I think the best was a rematch of saints / vikes featuring a botched fair catch returned for a touchdown to end the game. If that happens we all owe Will a beer.

          1. I think it would be more painful for die-hard Vikings fans if they lose on a blown call in Philly and then watch the Eagles win in a blowout in Minnesota after a string of upsets leave a weak opponent for Philly to pound on.

            1. What about the Eagles getting completely destroyed in a Super Bowl, despite the AFC team being an inferior opponent?
But I think that blowout in the Super Bowl after the Vikings get soClose is the way to go though. Though there is more than one way to skin a cat.

    1. I just saw that this morning when my daughter retweeted it. This is the high school my daughter goes to, and I haven't had a chance to ask her if she is actively in that group. I am very hopeful that this doesn't blow up too crazy.

        1. Clarification: I hope the high school kids involved are not pulled into too much craziness. For the most part we are a very polite town, and even in my industry (slinging drinks) I rarely witness any uncomfortable political rage debates. I am sure people vent behind closed doors, but not so much in the public arenas. But, yeah, we are already way down the "too crazy" road.

          1. Well, I have a feeling those students will withstand any crazy that might come their way. Their responses showed a level of maturity and patience I wasn't aware teenagers were capable of.

        1. Anything is possiblllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllle!

      1. Skeletons meet Closet... Closet meet Skeletons. Nibbish has a much cleaner reputation and background!

  2. Of course, as a good wgomer, I disdain the NFL. Does not stop me from watching. I was enjoying the first half dismantling of Cincy. But the local station switched to Saints-Jets at the half! Goddamn it!

    1. You missed seeing Teddy Bridgewater come into the game in the fourth quarter and throw an interception on his first pass.

        1. It was. And it was a good move to get him on the field. You never know what could happen. They may yet need him this season, so they might as well get some of the rust off in a blowout game.

      1. I had my tongue in cheek. I can dislike lots about football and still enjoy watching, particularly the Vikes. Inconsistency is my middle name.

  3. Joe, one of my uncles at the extended family party was echoing your sentiments. Nearly identical in attitude, if not phrasing.
He was still sticking with field-goal kicking catastrophe.

    Funny.

    1. We were talking about the same thing but thought “been there done that” (twice) with missed field goal. Has to be something new and weird. We decided it would be a last second multi-lateral kickoff return like Buffalo v. Houston or “The Play.”

      1. For me, it will be tough to beat the 12 men in a huddle after a timeout and then Favre(!!!!) throwing across his body when he could have walked for a first down. That is the absolute gold standard.

Edit: Check that. That is what the gold standard aspires to be.

    1. I am more on the fire Fletcher bandwagon. It would have been nice to have Haula and Tuch this year. Most of the personnel decisions this year have been questionable at best. I know we have had some injuries, but the blue line has been a mess. I know the expansion draft affected everyones depth, but we just don't have nearly the squad on the ice. I don't think Boudreau is the issue.... yet.

      1. Exactly this assessment. After signing Parise and Suter, I thought Fletch might be alright. Now ... not so much.
