I think we can officially start closing the store for the year. Anything you're hoping to see in the last couple months? Watching at all?

I'm back! We will now have a slight pause while people ask "You were gone?"
The Co'C title could just as well be regarding Joe Mauer. I want to see good things for him -- at least a 100 OPS+ for the year.
I'm likely taking the kids to the game tomorrow (I should really firm up these plans). I've still just been enjoying baseball for baseball. I've been turning on the game a few times a week, not because I'm invested in their success, just because it's a nice activity to take in when I get the opportunity. I remember a few years ago when I considered them completely unwatchable. This is not that team. It's a bummer they aren't as good as they were hoped to be, but they're also not as bad as they might have been.
which game are you talking about?
Oh crap! It's in Chicago... I saw Monday's was in MN, and the coming weekend's series is in MN, and I just assumed. Well... I'm gonna have some explaining to do to my kids.
I was going to say that you might see me there. π
Thanks for helping me catch it... That would have been ... not ideal if we'd showed up and expected to buy tickets.
So, I never really had time to share a funny story regarding the whole Weezer/Toto cover thing. I would guess some of us are getting a bit tired of the bit, but bear with me. I have a local hockey dad friend who shares my goofy sense of humor. Our wives work together, and at their Christmas party, we were standing in the corner having cocktails with the rest of the anti-social husbands. Somehow, Toto came up and we both exclaimed at the same time that we loved Africa. It became a running joke that if we heard it, we would text each other, or even call each other and just play the song. I always did like the song, but not as much we both let on during this running joke. Anyway, when I first heard the Weezer cover, I went a little nuts as I do love me some Weezer. My buddy is also a Weezer fan and we collectively lost our shit celebrating the cover version. I love the fact that the story behind the cover is pretty neat, but I will be honest, I am fatigued of the bit at this point. Toto seems to be milking it as far as they can take it, and their cover of Hashpipe is meh at best.
Africa is a top 10 for me, too. Runner daughter and I both agreed that we could understand Weezer covering the song, but not why they would have it sounded so similar. If you weren't going to make it your own, why do it? And the keyboard solo is even essentially the same, but with a doofy setting that muddles the sound.
I'm with you. A cover song should feature that artists twist on the song, or introduce a song to a new audience. This did neither.
Yep. When I first heard about it, I thought it was at least worth hearing a chunk. Pretty quickly I was wondering what the point was.
I mean, I can see them wanting to do it live in a performance or something just for kicks, but to release it as a single?
Their second most commercially successful single, at that.
YES! That was my big problem with the song. It would've been simpler to release the original by Toto as a single again (see Oh What a Night and Bohemian Rhapsody)
It's Newbish's new favorite song at the moment, so I'm heading out a lot lately. So far, it's holding up, but we're going to reach the tippng point soon.
Woke up this morning to reports that Madison was under quite a bit of water, getting upwards of 10 inches of rain in some spots. I believe it was mostly the west side that got hit with the worst flooding, but hey ch, hope you were able to avoid any damage last night.
That was parts of Omaha yesterday.
cool graph
How many times each final score has happened in MLB history... The 49-33 game happened on June 28, 1871. pic.twitter.com/H0CoITe83b
Can't find that or the 16-16 game in BR, but they do have one 14-14 game from 1953.
As an attorney, I'm rather interested in today's events.
Let's be honest. Being an attorney has nothing to do with it.
I was just going to say that as a restaurant owner, I am very interested. I find the timing to be very interesting too. Can you say "squeeze"? I think you can.
Between the two of you, there seems to be some collusion.
Good thing that isn't a crime
Truth.
...wait...
I do not remember Nixon at all, as I was 6 at the time. This one I am watching history unfold very closely.
I remember watching the Watergate hearings on TV. My daughter, who is 2 years old than I was then, seems uninterested except that she wants a change in the White House.
We probably should have made some reference to multiple Greekhouse innings convictions?
Anyone have any experience with online mortgage companies (specifically Quicken/Rocket)? I've encountered a couple transactions tangentially, so figured I'd reach out, and they responded very quickly, and I've liked it so far... I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. (Also, we may have found a new home, pending the sellers bid being accepted on a different one.)
Rocket was by far the most expensive in terms of fees and APR that we encountered. We purchased through Wells Fargo just before the scandal broke and wound up with a crazy good interest rate. Consumer Reports had some pretty negative things to say about Rocket as well.
We used Costco to find a good rate.
My weather app's description of the local weather: "Smoke."
The sky at 7:30 this evening was so overcast the Mrs asked if there was rain in the forecast. Uh, no, honey. Have you seen that dim, orange sun?
