      1. That one gal from our graduating class who was really good at basketball and had a mom who was a teacher in the middle school lives next door to Theilen, apparently. It's kind of fun seeing her facebook posts from time to time.

    1. I can get on board with that but I was forced to vote "no" in the poll. Silly pollsters, never asking the right questions and always trying to skew results.

    2. Yep. Got an "ooh yeah" out of me.

Also, it got lots and lots of people talking, somehow. People are still chatting about it. That's kind of hilarious.

  1. Gah. Bought a new mattress a few weeks ago, in anticipation of buying the new house. "You're only 20 minutes away, just call and they'll get it to you in a couple days" or some version of that. So went ahead and paid for delivery.

Called for delivery. It will be a full week+.

  2. My quest to get the Shingrix vaccine continues. I tried over a month ago, but when I showed up for my appointment (combined with a physical), they gave me the deer-in-headlights look when I asked where the vaccine was, and said they were out. I then tried to go to my Costco (which had it in stock at the time), but was denied by my insurer. I then had a lengthy conversation with said insurer (Me: Why not? Them: Because HMO. Me: double jeopardy. Them: Uh, let's see what we can do. Me: yea, right).

I have followed up several times with my provider trying to get an appointment scheduled. They finally called back yesterday to say "back ordered until January at earliest." Me: give me options. Them: We can order it as a prescription to your pharmacy. That way it will be covered by insurance. Me: Hallelujah!

45 minutes later, Costco Pharmacy calls me. Them: Back ordered, don't know when. Also, insurance won't cover. Me: WTF? That's not what provider said. Them: let me key it in to check....Nope, not covered even as prescription order. Me: WTF?

So, again, I am being screwed over from both directions in a classic Catch-22. Insurer is paying provider to provide and won't cover except through provider, which can't provide. I am paying insurer to not receive the contracted services. Time to elevate, because this is utterly ridiculous.

      1. I generally try to not be cynical, but I'll make an exception for our health care system. Burn the whole thing down.

          1. Single payer health insurance. You can get overhead down to 3 or 4 percent instead of 15-20 percent.

    1. Whenever I think of HMOs, I think of this:

I wonder how many Americans think of the same thing. There’s no excuse for this system; I’m sorry, Doc.

    2. The problem with getting Shingrix vax (two shots 3-6 mon apart) is lack of supply. The word I get is that the doctors' offices don't even try -- have to go to the pharmas. The word from CVS, for example, is that they only get in a few at a time, so call ahead and hope to get lucky. UHC will cover it if you can get it.

      1. Yes, I am aware of supply issues. A month ago, when this started, my Costco had supply, but Blue Shield denied coverage. Which started my rant.

        The whole thing is absurd.

        1. NBBW saying yes, it's in short supply everywhere - you might be able to get from a physician or medical provider - and it will probably cost more.

          1. I think the shot is a couple of hundred bucks out-of-pocket. My co-pay on preventative care is zero.

  3. Mrs. Runner and I browsed a new store Sunday afternoon and bought the granddog a new TV* -- the birds have finally found it, and the dog was watching a Blue Jay until she changed the channel to Tufted Titmouses. I'm constantly trying to get her to stop barking and just patiently watch whatever happens to be on.
