My memory may be wrong, but I think when I looked back at the year that Mauer signed his contract, Beltre was the only free agent signing that fared better.
51 rWAR from 2010 through 2018. Mauer at a meager 28 rWAR, good for 34th over that span. Beltré ranked third. I'm trying to figure out how to filter for free agents but haven't yet.
Got something crudely reflecting it. I used PAs as a proxy for service time. It mostly works. Canó had a lot of PAs but wasn't a free agent until at least 2011 or 2012. Regardless, Mauer is fourth.
If When he goes into the Hall, instead of any particular team's hat, I want them to put a hand rubbing his head.
lol
I doubt Beltre would allow Andrus to keep his hand there long enough to get a good mold, though.
Might be one of the last players left to have had at bats at old County Stadium and Astrodome,
This might be a good time for an old Browns fan to point out that there are eight NFL teams with worse records so far this season.
I took my wife and god-daughter to see Book of Mormon this weekend. So, while I did recall prior to the show that it was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, I was definitely not prepared to be offended and/or uncomfortable in any number of ways, some of which I had never before considered. Good time, though. Goddaughter seemed to rather enjoy the whole thing. Thank God she's 18!
On the one hand, I'm glad they expect theater-goers to be mature enough to understand what they're getting themselves into. On the other...a little heads up somewhere in the process would've been cool, too.
My neighbors went and were not aware of the number of buttons that were to be pushed nor how hard. They...did not take it well.
No punches were pulled...
first staged in 2011, so folks should probably be aware (or should avail themselves of some reviews) ahead of time....
Yes.
I didn't feel too much sympathy for the people I saw leaving at intermission.
I went with my wife on Sunday. I like offensive humor but some of it crossed the line into vulgarity to offend, not amuse.
I still had a good time.
Cool, covert caucus.
Bonus cultureing for us, had Brunch at Hell's Kitchen and enjoyed the Roe Family Singers, up close and personal-like. Goddaughter really liked them as well. A bit more wholesome. I'd recommend them as well. Reminded me of the Okee-Dokee Brothers, but for grownups.
I've actually seen them a couple times. There aren't too many bands that feature a saw in the band.
I took my daughter to see Chicago when she was about 16. That got a little uncomfortable in spots, but we both really enjoyed it. Good theater is hard to beat for a memorable shared experience.
You would think they owners and such would secure such thing before they announce the team name.
Looks like that's what the opponents were likely expecting as well! Never overestimate managerial competence!
I'm still hoping for the Amarillo Armadillos.
Amarillo 'Dillos?
Dillo Dillo
I deserve minus WGOMbucks for this.
Why not Yellow Armadillos?
("Armadillos Amarillos" en Español)
Seems like a no-brainer, but this is Texas we're talking about.
WOW! As long as it doesn't involve Royce Lewis, Kiriloff or Berrios, I'm all for it.
#Twins and #DBacks have had preliminary talks about a Paul Goldschmidt trade, source confirms, though the dialogue has not advanced in recent days. Minnesota had 5th-lowest OPS at first base of any @MLB team in 2018; Arizona had the best . . . because of Goldschmidt. @MLBNetwork
Only one year left on his contract. Easy to offer him arbitration at the end of the year and get a draft pick but that's it. I'm not too high on this. You're buying on 2019 only.
just go pick up cron.
I'm listening to the 1966 all-star game. The announcers (Jim Simpson and Tony Kubek) were making a big deal at the start about how Sam Mele intended to use his eight starters the whole game in an attempt to win, so I checked the box score. He didn't do that, but Frank Robinson, Tony Oliva, and Brooks Robinson all played the whole game. Al Kaline came out after eight innings. On the other hand, Walt Alston played five guys the whole game: Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey, and Ron Santo. If you're wondering, the NL won the game 2-1 in ten innings. It was a day game, of course, and it was played at the brand new Busch Stadium. The temperature was over a hundred degrees. Casey Stengel was asked what he thought of the new ballpark. He responded, "It certainly holds the heat very well."
Walt Alston played five guys the whole game
I read that as the NL fielded five guys and still won.
OMG, old Busch in three digit heat?! Nope, uh uh.
Nice story about basketball analytics and a guy from Will's alma mater.

More Twins news: Luis Arraez added to the forty-man roster. Alan Busenitz released to play in Japan. Nick Anderson (8-2. 3.30, 4 saves, 1.30 WHIP in 60 AAA innings last year, age twenty-eight) traded to Miami for infielder (mostly third base) Brian Schales (.258/.354/.403 in AA, will be twenty-three next season).
I've decided that John C. Reilly's voice is Barney on the Simpson's minus the belching.
Need a quick suggestion from those in the area:
I need to get from S 46th and Portland to Lyndale and Franklin this afternoon.
No NB 35W to WB94 means idk the best route to take.
Ideas?
IIRC, Park Ave (2 blocks east of Portland) is a one way all the way to downtown after 46th. Just fly down that and hang a left.
Just head over to Lyndale and take that the entire way.
The Twins add Nick Gordon and LaMonte Wade to the forty-man roster.
Former first-round pick Tyler Jay left unprotected.
Adrián Beltré retires.
booooo.
