Ever run into someone in a weird place you haven’t seen in forever so you just stand there staring at each other stupidly for a few moments? That’s always fun.

We ran into the family of one of my daughter's classmates in Panera in Waterloo, IA last night. We were both trying to beat the snow storm on our way back from St Louis.
When I was about 20, I ended up waiting in line for something in Amsterdam one group in front of a family that we'd known many years, though never through anything involving me. My brother was on the same little league team as one of the kids, I think the dad helped coach that team with my dad, and at least one of the kids (probably both) had my mom as a teacher. They had moved away after a few years of being tangentially connected to us, so I kind of knew them, but not well enough to remember for sure who they were. I spent about 30 minutes of our line waiting time glancing back at them trying to figure out why they looked familiar, while they were clearly doing the same thing to me. It hit me later that day who they were, and I felt pretty dumb for not just saying something.
I ran into a high school classmate at a Berlin Pizza Hut. I had spent the previous semester studying in Athens and while there I met a girl who was this girl's doppelganger (also a U.S. study abroad student, but not from anywhere near MN). So when I first saw her I had to do a double take to make sure it was actually the classmate. Turned out the classmate had had other people tell her about the doppelganger too.
At Target, aaaaand tornado sirens :/
I played slip and slide on the road from Madison all the way home.
On the same day the Gophers beat Wisconsin in football for the first time in Trey's lifetime, Junior's high school football team won their section title (California doesn't have state titles in football for the most part) for the first time in his lifetime (they last won it in 2001, a month before he was born). And of course, I didn't get to watch either game because I was stuck in traffic near Palm Springs because of a major accident.
I did watch the Gopher replay on the ESPN app when I got home, but I had already seen the final score.
Was at a hole in the wall burger place in NOLA on Friday that I had never previously visited. I'm waiting at the pickup for our order and the man behind me in line asks me about my shirt (it's a Hold Steady shirt in the Grain Belt logo that I bought at Surlyfest). I told him it's a Minnesota band with their name over a Minnesota beer logo. He says, "Oh, I like it. My cousin moved up to Minneapolis years ago. Do you happen to know a John [redacted]?" Of course, I've met his cousin. He's only been dating the mother of one of my best friends for about fifteen years. In fact, his cousin attended my wedding.
