I found out the owner of Rick's day care is a Vikings fan. I've been waiting for a month or so to give him a "hey, good game, eh?".

Today I conduct my twenty-third funeral of the year, which ties my personal record. This morning I found out that another of my parishioners had passed, so I assume I will break my record later this week.
uh... congrats?
I'm guessing they are not being replaced by younger parishioners either. Will be very interesting to see what what church participation looks like in 10 years or so. (That's not intended as a slight on organized religion, more a note on demographics and the ways that younger people participate in church).
That said, online attendance and EFT are a big thing, so you'd be surprised by some things going on now.
Oh no doubt, there's even an article in yesterday's Strib about on-line attendance and some demonations setting up "micro churches." My problem with on-line attendance is that you lose the community aspect of belonging to an actual church.
exactly. it's not meant to be a replacement, but it is nice if you are parishioner laid up, or on vacation, or unable to attend for some other reason.
demonations? Not sure if you meant to type that regarding a religious topic?
Half baked I tells ya.
It's a challenge getting younger people to attend. A challenge we share with lots of other churches, of course. If someone had the magic solution, we'd all be using it. All you can do is keep plugging away and doing the best you can, and encouraging the people of your churches to do the same.
I know a lot of people that grew up in the church as children, drifted away in teen and young adult years and then came back to the church as they matured and were looking for something more fulfilling.
It happens that way sometimes. The thing is that, for younger people, "regular church attendance" tends to mean once every three or four weeks, rather than every week. It's not necessarily their fault--they have a lot of things that take them out of town on weekends. But that means for every older person--for whom "regular church attendance" means every week--that you lose, you have to add three or four just to stay even.
Being unemployed the first two months of 2018 meant I got to watch a bunch of CL games. I'm bummed I'm going to miss some of these matches. May have to fire up the DVR.
I've made an effort to watch EPL games as a gateway into more international soccer this year and I've had some success with that. I'm even recognizing some teams and players. Been enjoying Liverpool this year. Was fun to watch them dominate MU.
I had been doing the same, but then I switched to watching Bundesliga matches instead. The play is way more entertaining than found in the EPL, especially Dortmund.
Yeah I've been tracking on the Bundesliga since we started planning our Berlin outing earlier this summer.
I started up my Pimsleur Deutsche lessons and Duolingo back in April, and been listening to WDR 2 Ruhrgebiet out of Dortmund using Simple Radio.
Borussia Dortmund has been a lot of fun to watch - Reus, Alcacer, Sancho, Witsel. The sad part is that the weekend TV programming often favors Bayern, Hertha Berlin, Eintracht and I'm either watching Bundesliga games in Spanish, or via streaming Xfinity on my laptop.
I stream through the fox sports Roku app and they almost always show the dortmund game. But yeah, lots of bayern. (that bayern - dortmund match a month ago was completely bananas, too.)
On that topic, we had an EPL thing going this year, right? I think I even signed up.
Rumor has it that Magoo has started a new job. It is that old news just now trickling out to the Linkedface?
How long until the NCAA goes after Dupree McBrayer for receiving improper benefits connected to his mother's funeral expenses?
The check engine light on the van has been coming on intermittently for about a week, so I had the code read today and it shows a cylinder 1 misfire. I think I'll replace the plugs and maybe the wires and see if that fixes it. We've had the vehicle four years now and it's never been tuned up. It sort of amazes me how long cars can go without needing tune-ups now. We never tuned up the Camry in the 5 years we had it, all I ever had to do on it was normal maintenance - a battery, tires, some oil changes and wiper blades.
I wasn't aware we were still able to open the hoods on these newer vehicles.
Oh you can open the hoods, but good luck finding anything
As I discovered, having one piston not firing due to an over-worn spark plug is sometimes a performance problem.
I dont know how this is legal, but no whistle was blown and Taj was pretty good!

Champions League draw.

The NCAA has granted waivers to pay for funerals of recruits in the past, so I would imagine paying for the funeral of an athlete's mother wouldn't be much of a stretch. I would hope, though, that when you have someone actually working in basketball operations doing fundraising that they would get it pre-approved by the NCAA.
