There were no games played in the Arizona Fall League yesterday, so here's an recap of how Twins players are doing:
Royce Lewis is batting .323/.371/.710 with 3 home runs in 31 at-bats.
Luke Raley is batting .121/.189/.212 in 33 at-bats.
Ben Rortvedt is batting .111/.200/.111 in 9 at-bats.
Zach Neff has an ERA of 0.00 and a WHIP of 0.43 with 6 strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
Jovani Moran has an ERA of 4.15 and a WHIP of 1.62 with 8 strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Dakota Chalmers has an ERA of 4.32 and a WHIP of 1.44 with 13 strikeouts in 8.1 innings.
Moises Gomez has an ERA of 5.40 and a WHIP of 2.60 with 7 strikeouts in 5 innings.
Yeah, same here. I feel like this roster, dinged up as it is, represents the best case scenario. This is the roster we needed on the field (Buxton aside), and this is the one that can beat the Yankees.
No Martin Perez. I'm okay with that, just mentioning it.
He's obviously been struggling and has wide splits and the Yankees are so right-handed heavy, it really made no sense to have him on the roster. Smeltzer has reverse splits, so it makes sense to have him on the roster. I wouldn't be surprised if Perez replaces Smeltzer on the roster if the Twins advance.
Wow, no Perez. Only one non-Rogers lefty, and it's Smeltzer. Graterol makes the cut.
Ehire's back, and Arraez, and Kepler, and Marwin. No Turtle, no Wade...
This is not the roster I was expecting.
I was hoping for Wade over Adriana but probably wanted the position flexibility with the Arraez injury.
I'm assuming Willians is the first man in if an injury occurs. I was just a little surprised at Gibson, although I can understand it.
I suspect Gibson is a loyalty thing as much as anything. Over the last week of the season, Rocco seemed to be trying really hard to find a role Gibson could fill.
I think it's more than that. He's been pretty good the first time through the order and opponents have a OPS of over 1.000 against him when he goes past 75 pitches, so when kept to shorter outings, he has some real value. His ERA is a lot worse this year, but his K rate and BB rate are actually better than last year. He has kind of wide splits as well, which helps against the Yankees.
No Ryne Harper? Is that surprising? It seems surprising.
He had a pretty rough second half. Don't know if he got tired, got hurt, or they just figured out his stuff, but he had lots of troubles down the stretch.
Much as I liked Harper early in the season, he hasn't been effective for quite a while; hopefully he can work on things in the offseason and come back even better.
Those curves and that velocity would make for a really nice change of pace, compared with the rest of the bullpen, but he wasn't fooling anyone the last couple of months.
He was demoted to AAA in late August and only got recalled when rosters expanded. He only made 5 appearances in September despite the Twins relying heavily on their bullpen all month.
I guess someone heard me say I didn't want to see Perez anywhere near a playoff rotation.
Double whammy for Astudillo. Can't quite make the Twins 25 man playoff roster and falls just short of the top300 list. Maybe next year for both.
Arraez in the starting line up and Kepler too!!!!!
St. Thomas has been invited to join the Summit League. Minnesota may finally get a second Division 1 team.
What's a Summit League?
"Non-football" That's interesting, and certainly not a one-stop solution for them.
They're trying to join the Pioneer for football. That is non-scholarship.
It sounds like they'll explore joining hockey with some of the WCHA schools.
I picked up a City Pages for the first time in years this week; Tommie* Athletics was on the cover.
*Or is it "Tommy Athletics"? This Auggie doesn't know the proper usage.
For those curious, "Auggie" is Augsburg while "Augie" is Augustana (SD).
Not sure if Augsburg's spelling predated the naming of the downtown Mpls "Augie's Cabaret".
I have to book a multi-city trip for work. The company we're supposed required to go through because it saves my company money of course costs $300 more than booking direct with the airline. That's not including the booking fee they charge.'
Additionally, a co-worker received a $75 travel voucher from an airline due to delays and such. He just found out this company charges $30 to apply a travel voucher. I really wonder who's pockets this "saved" money goes into...
This escalated quickly
Nah, that one killed the conversation.
If anything, those de-escalate quickly.
Or, rather, they decapitate quickly.
Mini-caucus tonight. 20 year high school reunion for philosopher and I. Banking on the place having a TV with the Twins game on.
I need to figure out how/where I'm watching the game.
The brewery sounds fun, I know they're having a watch party and I do have a free pint token for there.
Can we come?
$60 at the door, and I suppose you could be my guest
I'll vouch that HJ's an alum.
You could pull it off. Had our 20-yr this summer. As another big-schooler, there were a lot of people I certainly didn't recognize.
Why would National Taco Day be on a Friday instead of a Tuesday?
Because it didn't go so well the last time it was on a Tuesday.

Playoff roster released. Arraez in, A-stud out.

I'm expecting to know Beau. Anyone else is gravy.
$60?! Trying to keep the riff-raff out?
Something like that. Paying for the DJ I guess.
Our high school was all riff-raff.
You better get like 10 drink tickets with that
Half-baked Hall poll is up.
