School's been blown to pieces. Who else is going into an early summer break?

The school was nice enough to give people chromebooks, so my kids are fortunate to get to do an hour or two of school work per day.
The combination of the stimulus money, not having to pay for daycare and a much, much larger bonus than I expected has been nice. I used some of it to flush out my booze collection so I could vary what cocktails I drink.
I don't drink much these days, maybe one or two drinks a month. But last week for the first time I ordered booze on-line. Bought Tito's vodka; first I've had that tastes decent by itself
My kids both got chromebooks from their school as well, and they definitely have more than an hour of school work per day. The jalapeno (4th grade) probably has around 3 hours per day and is able to manage it pretty well on his own and has been finishing most or all of it before lunch. I tend to check in to make sure he's not overlooked anything and that he's actually selected "turn in" so that his teacher gets his work. He's been pretty good about spending some free time either reading or playing a math game called Prodigy that is only semi-annoying.
The peperoncino (1st grade) probably has about 3 hours total of work, but it's really hard to tell given how much time he spends being upset about the assignments, arguing, being "too tired," etc. I've been trying to having him do the hardest stuff early in the day and have him take brief breaks between each assignment since I do recognize he can't maintain his focus straight through. He generally starts school between 8:30 and 9:00 and is done at around 3:30.
Hah, the 1st grader! That's our kindergartner all the way. 2nd grader is just pure distracted all day. 4th grader has 4 hours or so per day, probably. Never able to finish before lunch, but not too late in the day at least.
We're doing a little road trip today. Going to Red Wing to do some hiking and then going to do walking tour of St Olaf and Carleton since the junior didn't have a chance to tour either one this spring.
Getting outdoors is the in thing. I think Harper will get another trip to the dog park today, sunny skies and warm temps are a blessing.

Are you going up Barn Bluff? I did so for the first time last summer and really enjoyed it.
Yes!
This is the start of training for August boy scout hiking trip. I'll have a 50 lb pack.
Wow--good luck!!
50 lbs! My pack for my 6 day solo trip at Isle Royale was around 40 and there was like 3 things I wish I hadnβt taken.
I've got a lot of 14 year olds that won't be able to carry much do I'm preparing to have to carry some of their share. Hopefully, I'm overdoing it and the actual hike will seem easy!
Walk the Arb at Carleton.
Psh, the arb at Gustavus is way better.
Hmm...
Gustavus Arb: 130 acres.
Carlton: 880 acres.
SJU: 2500 acres.
The short guy would think bigger is better
I said nothing about "better". Methinks someone is projecting...
Mentioned on the Book of Face, but it was pretty fun to bike through the U and see no one. Totally bizarre. At one point, though, two guys passed buy on a tandem bike wearing only one-strap of their Gopher overalls (and no shirt underneath), and they were yelling Row the Boat at every single person outside. Hilarious.

More yard work. I've replaced three sprinkler heads and risers so far. One riser I had to replace twice because it had a hole in it that I didn't see at the store. Grrrr.
One sprinkler was ingeniously installed mostly behind a tree trunk, obscuring the patch of weeds it was supposed to water. I got a taller riser and think I now can reach most of that patch, which I dug up and seeded. Home ownership!

I'll allow it!
Went to my first Zoom wedding today. Groom nephew going to GTMO in Oct and bride to Brit. Columbia to school in Aug. Traditionally would do the Gravy Sauce boat from Dayton's but went with the Venmo cash send instead.
