If you have a child and you are trying to to decide a sport ànd position for them to play during the pandemic I strongly recommend hockey and goalie.
So many wrist shots.
I am sure this may change once the pandemic is over and we have early morning ice times and real equipment costs but for now this is really great.
My youngest LOVES the idea of playing goalie and was in heaven during his first year (last year) when it got around to his turn between the pipes. He is currently saying he wants full Wild and Golden Knights goalie gear for Christmas...I do not want to be a goalie parent and hope that this is a phase.
My oldest thought he wanted to be a soccer goalie until kids started kicking the ball hard enough that it hurt to make some saves.
You skating at my old work?
We built a rink in our yard over the winter (new house from when you were in bflo) . Just driveway for now. If this stuff ever ends will get him out on the real world with other kids. As for now though, this almost 40 year old gets embarrassed by his 9 year old every day.
Congrats on the new house. Same area?
hey hey hey -- you're supposed to join the Zoom tonight and discuss this!
Well...
or not...
We have been here for a little more than 4 years so it's been a while. My wife's family had some property just outside the city and, sometimes this is how it goes. The good news is I can see Canada from my house in case I need to make a swim for it.
Talk to me about your rink-building? I'm looking at doing that this winter.
Thinking I'll buy a few tarps and some cheap plastic liner, some 2x8s and a bunch of large screws/bolts, then wrap the tarps underneath and around the boards, and then bolt them down through the rivets on the tarps.
But my visions rarely work out quite as well as I hope, so...
That's one way.
last winter I had a giant leaf pile that I put into one part of my uneven yard. From there giant water puddles formed in November which turned into giant ice sheets in December. From there we just swept of the snow.
The good news is the water puddles were gone by June.
I am sure your way would give you better ice with less long term impact to your lawn though.
*sigh* all this talk about ice is reminding me there won't be any curling this year down here.
They are having curling in Chaska but my team is sitting it out. Doesn't seem like a good idea.
Yeah, we would have been more upset if they had decided to put ice in. There's more important things to take care of first.
We live about 200 yards from a rink and I would never have done this. But, my daughter only skated at the outdoor rink about 4 times. The indoor rink, though...
I'm not sure where the nearest rink is... I'm not aware of any in our town. And my kids are young enough that I could see them sliding around on it all the time - with or without skates.
I am pretty sure that I re-broke my toe last night. Very painful, much more so than last time.
Been there, done that. There's not much you can do for a broken toe, other than gut it out.
Twins-Tigers game postponed after Twins players vote to not play Thursday night.https://t.co/OsVj5ORHeu
Looks like the wave of fans who've had it with the Twins with the anthem kneeling left behind some fans who've now had it with the Twins with postponing games
They're just going to leave even more leg room for me for all the games I attend in the future.
Word on the street is the Twins are pursuing a trade for Josh Hader. Hard pass.
It's a crowded bullpen already.
RIP, Lute Olson.
He caused no small amount of suffering for this Gopher fan when he was at Iowa. But I always liked him.
He went to HS in Grand Forks; several years back, there was a retirement party for him in Phoenix, and my mother got to visit with him and showed him the scrapbook she had of his newspaper clippings of him from HS basketball games.
well, that's kinda cool. Did your mom go to h.s. with him, or just in the area?
Yes, went to HS with him at GF Central.
Is that by the GF Railroad?
I got you beat. Lute Olson was my dad’s high school basketball coach at Two Harbors from 1958-59.
Game time Zoom tonight for those interested.
2020 <== The year from hell. The end of the American Century. That's all I got.
Part I of the Expansion Draft is up - Stadium and Manager
