One of my friends is running this in insta stories: https://www.instagram.com/music.matchups which has been fun even though the country (and upcoming brackets that I suggested) one might kill me. HJ you should veer clear because if I'm having music opinions well...
Hey, I've been good lately! For example, I didn't say out anything about the paradoxical nature of a 100 best U2 songs list.
lol. Don't get me wrong: I appreciate your music thoughts. But those lists will do nothing but anger people especially now that he's not making the bracket public.
Ahh, I see your point. Like zooom, I don't get too bent out of shape about those things.
(100% team free though. I probably shouldn't look at what songs are below it...)
I only skimmed from "O-B-D-O-B-D" back and... I was surprised at how much I was like, yeah, okay. Other than the ones free mentioned, there wasn't anything I would argue too strongly against.
There are a number I'd list higher just because I personally like them more, but the only ones I remember as slightly eyebrow raising were "Helter Skelter", "Tomorrow Never Knows", and "You Know The Number". The first two is because they're just better, more interesting songs, and if you consider the context of when they were released, that's gotta bump them up. The last because I always got a kick out of it and if you want goofy Beatles shit, that's way better and more "creative" than "O-B-D-O-B-D" (also, weren't there two versions of that?).
This is high praise!
To be fair, I haven't gone the other way yet. 😉
(There were two versions of You Know My Name though, right? IIRC, there were like eight or nine "acts", and the two versions were some amalgam of them.)
When I did the list, I only reviewed songs released on their official UK albums, plus the Past Masters. So I didnt review "Free as a Bird," or the "Let it Be...Naked" album or anything else. So...maybe there was?
He's doing it wrong. Everyone knows that when you have a long list like that you drag it out over six months with daily posts about each ranking.
Funny you post this. I spent an hour this morning looking at that list and other U2 lists. I, for one, don't get too worked up about these lists. I look at it kind of like "hmmm... interesting he put that song there". Something as subjective as music, there is no right or wrong. Well, other than the fact that Chris Cornell had a set of killer pipes and I am still sad he is gone.

Speak for yourself. I still break into a cold sweat thinking that Beau put Ob-Li-Di Ob-La-Da ahead of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Help, and Hard Day's Night on his Beatles list.
Hey, life goes on, bruh
And if you want some fun, sing ob-la-di, bla-da
I'm sad to say that the Santa Fe wheel bearing has defeated me. I spent two hours yesterday trying to free the lower control arm bolt and the shock absorber mounting bolt with no luck. If I had a hoist I might be able to do it, but when working on the ground there's not enough tool clearance to get any real leverage on those bolts. So there goes another $250 in labor I didn't want to spend. But once the Santa Fe is done I can start digging into Younger Daughter's Subaru. I've been researching the head gasket job and I've identified the some potential pitfalls (e.g. valve cover bolts get very rusty threads and the heads round off easily when turned) so I feel more or less ready to take it on. So when the Santa Fe is done and I know we have one reliable vehicle at our disposal, I'll tackle the Subaru, maybe as soon as tomorrow. Oh, I also found I can get the Fel-Pro gaskets and head bolts I need online at about a 20% discount over the parts store, so that's nice. Stay tuned.
Imagine a company so big that it can hold a special yearly sale and has no need to advertise it.
I have seen ads for a very large company's two-day sale this year.
But there was no need to advertise.
I've been enjoying Steven Hyden's top 100 lists. I don't really agree with a lot of it but still interesting.
