    1. Back to Back Champ! Just hoping I can hold on to the win once the absentee ballots are counted.

    1. I'm with you, it's been a pretty cruddy last week as job security unexpectedly landed on top of all of the other macro stresses.

It's dumb, but 420doggface208's viral TikTok video, appropriately "Morning vibe," still makes me smile even though it's going to be played into the ground by TikTok's ad campaign.

      1. That's been fun little phenomenon (that I've tried to avoid so it doesn't get driven into the ground for me). It was especially cool when those two dancers on the cover of the Rumours album got in on it.

    1. There are all kinds of what-ifs with that one. If they postponed, how long would the postponement have been? And what if more players test positive? At some point, would they just have declared co-champions? Who knows?

      1. And I think that is one reason MLB did not react "with an abundance of caution" to the initial inconclusive result. Manfred seemed shaken up after the game (or drunk, but not going there) and have to wonder how much this factored into it.

Craig Calcaterra's dive into the situation in today's newsletter is worth reading.

        1. Rosenthal covered the inconclusive tests from Monday as well.

Why didn’t the league exercise an abundance of caution and get Turner off the field immediately after learning he might be positive? Apparently, because inconclusive results are not uncommon, and the standard procedure was to run a second test.

Turner was the first positive result in 58 days. I don't know how many tests returned as inconclusive but Turner's looks to be the first in two months so it makes sense to let him play.

        2. I saw someone mention elsewhere that Manfred's oddly slow, hesitant speech is often how people react to hearing their own voice delayed slightly in an earpiece or through the stadium speakers. Seems like he should be better prepared for that possibility, but that could explain it.

    2. That he was allowed to celebrate with the other players is a glaring mistake. I understand wanting him there for the photo and with a mask, that seems fine. Hugging and handshakes with everyone else should have never happened.

        1. It's stuff like this that is just infuriating to me. There's no reason he should be allowed out there at all, for any of it.

Positive test? You get isolated immediately. Period.

It would be crappy timing for him, and I'm sure he and the team would be disappointed that he couldn't be out there. But, well, too bad. The health and lives of your teammates, reporters, grounds crew, clubhouse attendants, custodial staff, etc., etc., etc., is more important than you getting to spend time playing with your friends after winning a game.

      1. A friend tells me security tried to make him leave, but he refused. I haven't confirmed that.

Sporps. The number of dumb moves I've seen specifically related to sporps has me feeling really negative on the whole enterprise. My daughter's soccer team had their annual banquet at a restaurant banquet hall. 100+ people expected in an upstairs hall with a 250-person fire code limit. We opted out. I'm guessing we were the only opt-outs. If not, based on the fact that we were the only bussing-to-away-games opt outs, there certainly weren't more than 1 or 2 other families to opt out.

Anyway, that's all bad enough until I hear the thing went on 2.5 hours! Fuuuuuuu.

We also opted out of our middle schooler's banquet, which expects similar numbers.

We are feeling pretty isolated, and more than a little jealous. It's going to be a long winter.

        1. To talk the other side of the coin, another friend was planning a Gophers tailgate at his house for tomorrow night. As the forecast came out he figured he’d have a couple campfires outdoors and propane heaters in the garage to keep people warm. He very surprised me when he told me yesterday that he had decided to cancel it because it was going to be cold to the point that there would be too big of a crowd in the garage, too close together.

I was gladdened when he told me. I never would have predicted he would make that choice.

  1. Spent most of the day yesterday negotiating and planning with the joint's landlords and my local banker regarding a pretty extensive patio expansion. Going to jump from 34 outdoor seats to about 120. 3 season porch (with overhead heat) will cover about 70 seats with a pergola over the rest. Waterfall stone wall on one border and a few fire features. I have a great designer who is going to make this a super cool patio and I am getting pretty stoked about it. Should be finished and open by Memorial Day at the latest and possibly as early as Mother's Day.

It got me thinking: I would be interested in hosting a WGOM caucus sometime next summer. If there is interest, I will float a few dates out to the group. My thought would be to pick a weekend day on which the Twins play. We will have some TV's outside as well. What do y'all think?

  2. The Wisconsin-Nebraska game has been cancelled. I think I might go take a drive around downtown Madison Saturday, just because I can now.

  3. They're predicting the eye of the storm passing over my house. at night. ugh.

My neighbors have two trash cans because double. Both are sans lids. Both are full to the brim. Both are unsecured. One is near my car. I'm more inclined to yell at them than I've ever been, and they've done some shitty things in the past.

    Ugh.

  4. And like that we’re without power. At least it’s not August.

    {insert so it begins lord of the rings video here}

  5. Scratch another citizen off my must meet list! Great meeting the great Dread Pirate today at the joint!

          1. It was an enjoyable must meet experience! twayn was the first, before there was a list or a WGOM site. In fact, I believe it was before our favorite baseball team won a world series.

      1. Heh... here is the list. I have not audited it to see if any key person around here is not on the list, but it is a good start for a list.

        1. I've eaten at the joint a bunch of times. Usually sat at the bar, but also celebrated my (former) FiL's birthday there a while back. Great food. Good beer. I'm not traveling as much between MSP and Fargo as much (and when I do I'm on 10 since I stay at the family lake rather than Fargo) these days. But I'll have to flag you down next time. Introverts gonna introvert.

          1. Yes, please do so! Ask for the head dishwasher. (I type this with dishpan hands). It would be great to meet you!
