Speaking of CMEs, here's a fascinating video summarizing 25 years of SOHO; I particularly remember the solar maximum timeframe of 2000-2002, where you can see several times where protons totally overwhelmed the image, plus a couple quality comets swinging through the field of view:
what are the black rectangles, and the dark ray starting in about July 1999?
The rectangles are likely sensor glitches.
And the sliver of slight darkness you see running from the edge to the center I believe is a baffle or support structure of some sort.
I've identified Mercury, Venus ( both of which alternate from left to right to left since they're inside Earth's orbit), and some other planets; sometime I want to identify the larger comets that swing by. NEOWISE cuts across the right side of the screen around 46:50
Yes. There’s an occulter that blocks out the disk of the Sun so that the telescope can image the corona. That dark line in the lower left is from the support that holds the occulter in place in front of the camera.
And in bad telescope news, here’s video of Arecibo collapsing. In the drone video portion you can watch the cables snap right before it falls.
Save that for a blown save against the Yanquis at home.
mmmhmm.
shouldn't it really be for a Washington Nationals' blown save, what it being in the P.R. and all?
Amazing shot. Thanks, Mike.
Ok, I get moving Westbrook, and get this from Washington's side, but, really, is John Wall any more compatible with James Harden than was Westbrook?
Harden is so ball-dominant, I just don't see a role, except off the bench, for another ball-dominant point guard. I would see an alternative ball handler and spot-up shooter, but that's not John Wall.
Wall is more injured, so maybe that will make him more compatible.
Wall and a first. Wall's contract is insane, too, but I think Houston won this trade.
Yes. Wall was involved to match the salary.
it's a protected first, so potentially not worth much. Lottery-protected, then 1-12 protected, then 1-10 then 1-8, then becomes a pair of second-rounders.
I bet entirely too many of those Lester pitches were called strikes
Screw the ploughman’s lunch. This was a million points out of ten.
Nice apple core.
Glad the delivery is holding up
Oh, more than. Speaking of, I’ll mail you pennies if you don’t want the Venmo.
My Instagram follows are now my wife, a dance studio, a charter school, and sandwiches.
I'm trying to figure out what the knife was used for. Neither sandwich nor apple seems to require it (assuming you made the sandwich in advance).
I'm guessing the summer sausage
Our governor will be announcing new "stay-at-home" orders, based on regional hospital capacity, sometime in the next 45 minutes.
prepare to cue the b!tching
our state is so into sitting on their hands, and I feel for the local governments and businesses but when no one exercises any restraint or thought for others, what the heck can you do?
oh, yea. The b!tching is in full swing. teh Naziisms!!!
TBF, he really destroyed a lot of good will with the French Laundry stunt a couple weeks ago. But we have an unhinged segment of the population on the Right that is in deep denial and convinced that the Gubmint is out to steal their precious bodily fluids. (we also have an unhinged segment on the Left, and a hard-to-classify, unhinged segment of anti-vaxers, so we got that going for us).
I heard that former presidents are going to be taking the vaccine on live broadcasts. I hope that after they do one of them jokingly sticks his arms straight out in front of himself, ala zombies, and says in a robotic voice something like "Awaiting orders from Bill Gates. I am now programmed to do his will." And then winks directly into the camera.
I need a drink. Distilled water and grain alcohol, of course.
fox has KC vs Minn soccer on national broadcast. People must be desperate.
Wasn't the Thursday night NFL game postponed?
yeah was supposed to be Baltimore Dallas but Baltimore played yesterday.
I hope it gets decent ratings so more MLS is on network tv.
I caught the ending - good job, Loons
buried down near the bottom of this The Athletic article about the Minors leagues is some (what I find) interesting nuggets.
.... Two internet connections are required as well: one primary and one as a back-up.
...
Dedicated areas at the park for women who work as umpires or team staff is to include at least four lockers, two shower heads, two water closets and two lavatories, and at least 200 square feet (which is the same minimum requirement footage for the male umpires’ room).
...
For player accommodations on the road, every minor-league team is to provide 22 hotel rooms for road games — which is fewer rooms than there are players on rosters (25), because players typically share rooms. If more rooms are needed, the major-league team is to pay.
Players no longer have to pay clubhouse dues, a practice that drew criticism because it meant taking money out of players’ pockets when they are already paid very little.
My guess is that all minor league games will be streamed and that MLB is really going to make an effort to get women involved in the game and maybe an effort to get minor leaguers more money.
So Minnesota United Football Club (MNUFC), a male Minnesota-based professional sports team has won two(!) playoff games in convincing manner. Is that even allowed?
Scored more points than the Twins this year in this game alone.
This cracked me up on multiple levels
Can I retweet this? I can retweet this, can’t it? Is it weird if I retweet this. It’s hilarious. Okay. . . I’m doing it. https://t.co/ArVnXGQN4b
