Congratulations to the Loons in cementing themselves in the pantheon of Minnesota Sports Teams not named the Lynx!

Man, that game should go down as a MN all-timer.
It really should, the only thing that could have made it even more MN Sports would have been if the third was an own goal. What an awful collapse, it was such a fun game for the first 75 minutes.
In many ways that game was a parallel to the 2019 Twins season.
Perhaps with MN having a couple near misses to tie after the own goal. Goodness.
I downloaded the Fox Sports app and everything to watch it, then ended up not.
If you consider last year's playoff performance, the Loons have already hit two of the three of the potential professional men's sports playoff disappointments:
1. Best team on the field, do everything right but score more points than the opponent. (Loons 2019, Vikings v. Saints, some Twins play off games, Gopher Hockey v. Harvard)
2. Have the game in hand and inexplicably lose in heartbreaking fashion at the end. (Loons 2020, Vikings v. Atlanta and Seattle)
3. Should be a good game with a real good chance of winning but then get blown out (41-0, some Twins playoff series, Vikings Superbowl appearances)
I was excited for the game and yelled at each MN goal but I was surprisingly not crushed at the end. Just kind of chuckled. Obviously my heart has been broken so many times by MN sports, it cant' be touched any more.
Yup, same. As it got closer and closer to 90 minutes, you could sense something.
Question for those who know more than me: why didn't the Loons use more subs at the end? Seattle was just looking more energetic with their subs. Does MN lack the players?
That is the question literally everyone is asking. Especially since Seattle had two more days rest than MN. I haven't seen if the coach has addressed it.
Heath doesnt like to use substitutes
That reminds me of my brother-in-law's high school basketball coach. He just didn't like bounce passes. It only hurts your self to remove one of your available tools.
I don't get it. I thought it was a money issue.
Free-agent right-hander Matt Wisler in agreement with Giants on one-year, $1.15M contract, pending a physical, sources tell The Athletic.
That was my take. The Twins didn't want to risk Wisler winning his arbitration case from his low ERA due to his 99.3% left-on-base percentage. But that was a predicted $1.5 million they wanted to avoid.
My understanding was that the Twins were worried about the uncertainty of what the arbitration system would do about small sample size success with a player like Wisler. I'm surprised they weren't willing to match $1.15M (if that's what happened).
Maybe they viewed Wisler as a flash in the pan one year wonder
I was lukewarm on Wisler. A pitcher who relied on his slider for over 80% of his pitches makes me nervous. Both for the sustainability of his results and for health reasons. His control was worrisome. This front office is never going to overreact to a short sample size and potentially overpay. All that being said, $1.15 Million seems like a number we could afford if we felt he could even come remotely close to last year's performance.
Yes. It's not like he'd be anything more than a middle reliever so it doesn't really make a huge difference. I just thought they'd want another option there with the number of free agents they have in the bullpen.
I have confidence that they have a plan and I'm just not privy to it.
I keep telling myself that behind the scenes they are mining the fringes for value.
Maybe they expect higher tier players to be available for what they're planning to spend this offseason.

Right-hander Lance Lynn has been traded to the Chicago White Sox, sources tell ESPN.
I missed out of this show when it was on, I wish it was on in syndication somewhere (pair with with Law and Order!!!!) or on a streaming service I subscribe to.
Man, I loved that show.
2020, man...
Who needed that?
Who needed anything we got this year?
you sir need $1 WGOM
How dare you, sir, sully our good site with such filth?
I, for one, am outraged.
How about a decent Christmas cover.
Nope, still hate that one.
My ear holes, they burn.
Here's a question I was mulling this morning: what is the most satisfying season by a men's Minnesota Sports Team since the Twins last won the World Series?
I suppose the answer, if you include amateur sports, would be the Gophers winning a couple of NCAA hockey titles. But, let's limit the responses to professional teams. My money would maybe be on the 2002 Twins. They actually won a post-season series. Or maybe it's the 2003-04 Wolves, who made the WCF and were derailed by injuries at the end. Any other contenders?
The correct answer might be that Wild run to the conference finals around 2003 or 04. That was something else.
I mean, a few of the Vikings' NFC championship game runs ended in heartbreak, but were pretty damned satisfying up to that point. For my money, The Minneapolis Miracle is the number #1 MN sports moment of the last 28 years.
In the land of Vikings football, the most satisfying game since 1991 for me was the Thanksgiving Day game against the Cowboys. Randy Moss: 3 catches, 163 yards, 3 TDs.
That was my favorite moment of that season, followed by putting up 545 yards at Lambeau
I lost my GD mind when the vikes beat the Saints. I had a house full of Saints fans and they all were pretty grumpy with me. Full disclosure, I have no care for football of any kind. In fact, I pretty much loath football and football bro culture, but that win was fantastic. Chefs kiss.
The way that it ended sucked, but Randy Moss's rookie year was something. Other than the debacle against Atlanta, it took Tampa refusing to punt to beat that team. Top five offense of all time.
Yeah, I'd probably go with 1998. 2009 and 2017 each had considerable charm, as well.
Lynx won it all in 2017 too, for the final time of their dynasty.
There is an argument to be made, I think, that the ending of the 2009 season was the way it had to end. Favre, for all his greatness, tended to screw up at crucial times. That whole season, he was just phenomenal and really that game he played pretty well until that fateful play. It was all right there in front of him and he... just... well... did what he does.
Without question. As much of a gut punch as it was, I don't think there was anyone that was SURPRISED, exactly.
Still, that PI was BS.
Absolutely, plus the overtime period was so lame that they changed the overtime rule.
all good answers. I might go with the 2009 Twins. Mauer winning the MVP and Game 163.
For me it was when I went to the MLB leaderboard and there was Johan, Mauer, and Morny.
I would say Wolves WCF run
If you talk Gophers then maybe Clem Haskins Final Four team (that didnt happen lol) or that team Tubby took to the NCAAs and beat UCLA before getting smoked by Florida. Or last years Gopher football squad that beat Auburn in a Bowl game. I dont follow Gopher pucks enough to give an answer
While the end of 2006 was a major trainwreck, the season itself was dynamite! And THAT was the season where I initially found the original WGOM. That season was so much fun to experience. Just really sucked to have the Moneyball A's sweep us in 3.
I'll also contend that 2002 was excellent. Especially coming off nearly being contracted. It made that ALDS victory that much sweeter. Even if Adam Kennedy would kill the buzz about a week later.
2009 Game 163. I will never forget that game. I would still say that's my favorite watched game ever.
Vikings.... meh. I'm so out of football at this point, but the 1998 run was incredible. 15-1. Just couldn't quite make it over the Falcons. And the 2009 campaign with Favre was fun. That was probably the last time I really cared about football. And even then, just barely.
Can't say much about the Wild and T-Wolves as I just don't follow them.
What was so great about 2006? Other than, you know, going 71-29 in the last 100 games. This was my favorite Twins regular season OF ALL TIME and I don't know if it will ever be topped. 2010 was pretty gr
great, because, new park, won a ton of games and JI
JIM THOME MASHING TATERS!!!!1211@!!!!
I was at the Metrodome waiting along with everyone else for the Royals to polish off the Tigers in 2006. That was pretty awesome. The most amusing thing was the random storms of exuberance from time to time not due to anything on the field, but for each scoreboard change.
If you haven't noticed it yet, see what Google has to say when you google "Alex Trebek"
Lovely. Thanks.
I'm not sure how old I thought Alex Trebek was, but I didn't think he was 80.
It really was incredible. Seemed at least ten years younger.
Took the binoculars out tonight to check out the upcoming conjunction. Saturn and Jupiter are already close enough that they don't have to raise their voices to talk to each other.
Here's the poll to vote for your favorite Eddie Rosario and Trevor May six word stories. I chose my favorite story from each person who contributed at least one (so I didn't choose your favorite from a particular poster, well too bad).
