Got the telescope acclimating in the garage; going to show the neighbors and try a couple afocal pics with the phone, as a warmup for tomorrow night (or in case tomorrow is cloudy)
Went totally lazy-@ss and set up the telescope right in the front yard and snapped a few (meh) photos with the cellphone - I'm not posting any in the hopes that tomorrow's will be better at the closest conjunction. Had several neighbors by to check it out, (as well as the moon) and with temps in the mid-40s it wasn't too big of a hassle.
Tomorrow we'll go across the street and down a bit between houses and also plug in the drive motor so I won't have to adjust the positioning quite as often; if the clouds hold off I'll point at Mars and a few other objects as well.
I went to a few of Carnegie Observatory’s open houses over the years. They do a great job in person, so I’d expect this event would be good, too. Central and Eastern time zone people could even attend after seeing it for yourself outside.
Surreal B. Waxwing pix at the MN Ornithologists Union
Nice shots.
