Winter baseball reports will be taking a Christmas break. We plan to resume the series next week. Merry Christmas, everyone!
Not sure how much snow we got yesterday with the wind blowing it all around. The lot at the joint had a few drifts about 4 inches deep in spots, but most of the lot was clear. Most of the roads on the way home had hardly any snow. My driveway was almost completely clear at the house. I am guessing we got 2-3 inches, but who knows? I was happy I did not have to crank up the snow blower at the house, and when I got to work this morning, my service had scraped the lot and no snow accumulated on the sidewalks. #winning.
The only "white" we had here was the 10-20 newspaper pages swirling around in the back yard that I had to gather up (because trash day). The strong winds today do make home a more comfortable sanctuary though.
RIP, if you know what I mean.

More cowbell!
And the snowblower started, ran for about 10 feet and sputtered to a stop. I couldn't get it to turn over after that (even when using the electric start). This stupid thing has been in the shop three times since the last snowstorm it handled.
My shovel gets like that, too.
We have no snowblower to break down, but yesterday while whipping egg whites for meringue cookies, the Kitchen Aid mixer sounded to me like it was slowing down in a rather disturbing manner. I'm hoping it will hold up for the bûche de noël I'll be making this afternoon! (The mixer is a shocking 17 years old and has definitely been well used.)
17? That's in the prime of youth!
(IIRC, we got ours as a wedding present...in 1988)
We got ours 20 years ago as a “you’re never getting married” present. The lock has failed and there are only two speeds. May be time say good bye to the old friend.
We rented a beach house 4 hours down the gulf from home. Exchanging our four walls for four different walls has made the lonely holiday better.
It’s a white sand Christmas.
Day late and a dollar short grievance: Marriot hotels marketing call on my cell phone on Christmas Eve? "Thank you for choosing Marriot hotels...blah, blah, blah..." Maybe I will never choose Marriot hotels again?
Is that actually Marriot? They had a big privacy breach some time ago and I wondered if the spam calls were fallout.
I wouldn't think an image-conscious hotel chain (making that assumption) would want to be associated with annoying spam calls.
My grievance, and perhaps the most challenging thing this whole year, but especially this school year, has been kids, three of them, debilitatingly unable to settle down and go to bed. We suspect it's a little bit of a routine issue, indiscipline on the parenting side, some general stress and anxiety in both kids and parents creating a negative feedback loop. But it undercuts every effort we and the kids are trying to accomplish and has made this year SO MUCH HARDER than it needed to be. It's maddening to be exhausted at night, see the kids with no good reason for staying up, spend so much time and effort trying to get people to partake in a beneficial and essential biological function, and KNOW they're going to start the next morning miserable, and make us miserable when we try to get them moving. Maddening, I tell you.
Mrs Runner wanted to watch White Christmas; I pointed out it only has a 77 on Rotten Tomatoes, but we're watching it again anyway 😉
One of the lines I noticed this time around: "Benny's got a job in Alaska. He's been out of the country for three months."
