Just wondered if I might be the first one here to get the COVID vaccine. I'm an on-call chaplain for the local hospital and nursing home, which I guess makes me a "health care worker". It's a two-step process--I have to get another shot on January 28. You have to stay around for fifteen minutes after getting the shot, I guess to make sure you don't keel over from it. I didn't.
Congrats! Same protocol for allergy shots; they monitor for any reactions, although it was 20 minutes back in the day.
While technically an "essential" worker, if they offered me a vaccine right now I'd delay -- there are many more people that need it sooner that I do.
Oh, hooray! So happy you got your first of the two shots!
As an attorney I'm pretty sure I'm at the bottom of the list... Glad to see it is making its way around!
But you'd be first up against the wall, so you got that going for you.
Yay! To be completely honest, I’ve been worried about you.
Well, thank you for that, but as I like to say, I'm as healthy as an ox and nearly as intelligent.
As a mental health social worker for the county, The Permanent Roommate is considered "essential". But with us WFH and staying put except for groceries, she's not in any rush to get the vaccine either.
So far, all she's done is use her classification per Starbucks' rules to get some free coffee.
really? We are a contracted community mental health agency with nurses and we are not considered essential.
I guess idk if DHS considers her essential or just Starbucks
mental health workers are non-essential like Ph.D.s are not "doctors."
I hate needles, but I hate getting really sick much worse. I have to wait my turn for the COVID vaccine, but I'm going to ask for the pneumonia vaccine at my checkup next week. Anything I can do to lower my risk of serious illness I'm gonna do. Because freedom, dammit.
Glad to hear it. My wife is in health care and got her first dose a week ago. I’ll likely be one of the last due to my age and vocation. Hopefully your side effects will be minimal.
So far the only side effect is very minor soreness where the shot went in. I'll let you all know if anything should change.
My SO got the shot before her first shift back after the holiday on Tuesday. (Only to have a COVID patient 30 mins later...sigh). Some nurses are reporting a sore arm starting a few hours after the shot lasting around 24 hrs, but that is about it.
If you are eligible you probably should get the shot as soon as you are able because of the way the supply chain, holding the vax, moving to the next tiers of citizen works. You are effectively unintentionally making those behind you wait longer; at least according to one of the biggest healthcare systems in MN.
jiminy.
My wife, as a Physical Therapist in long term care, gets her first shot on Monday.
Restaurant workers are in the middle of the pack in terms of priority to receive. I will get mine as soon as I am allowed to. i will also strongly encourage my staff to all get theirs. I am estimating 3 or 4 won't do it and I am still digesting how to deal with them.
In Spain they are going to track the people who refuse the vaccine, and share this info with other EU countries. That will be interesting.

This thread belongs in an FMD post, but I couldn't wait until next year.

Crazy stuff. Deserves its own documentary.
New podcast, gang.
Speaking of, Wind of Change was a fun ride. A bit too long, but fun none the less.
I still think the most unbelievable thing about it was that the 40 year old host had never heard "Rock You Like a Hurricane."
That struck me as odd as well.
Happy new year, friends.
Happy New Year!
