I really like this song and I really love Patti Smith. There are 3 versions of this song I really like. Obviously Patti's version, Garbage + Screaming Females, and the acoustic 10,000 maniacs version. All fairly different takes on damn good song. Reading the back story on the song, it was generous of Bruce to give the song over to Patti, who took it to a great spot. I have never really been a fan of him singing it.
I disagree with you most vehemently.
Although I do the love Patti’s version, too.
I don't know what it is with me and Bruce. With many of my other tastes in music I should really like his stuff. Unfortunately I don't. Definitely in the minority on that, but it is a personal preference thing.
See, I felt like you do until I saw him live............. it was the closest thing to a religious experience I've ever had. I know a lot of people say that, and they do, but ... but .... yeah it's the only way to express how it was. I haven't become a superfan or anything, but I am certainly way more into his work now.
I love her phrasing. I do like Bruce's version. But this is the iconic one.
