Minor Details: Games of June 30

Brent Rooker leads the Saints.  Jordan Balazovic and Spencer Steer lead the Wind Surge.  A big inning chews up the Kernels.

ST. PAUL 7, OMAHA 4 IN ST. PAUL

Brent Rooker hit a two-run homer in the first and the Saints led all the way.

Batting stars:  Rooker was 2-for-3 with a home run (his thirteenth), two walks, three runs, and two RBIs.  Willians Astudillo was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Roberto Pena was 2-for-4.  Damek Tomscha was 2-for-5 with a double.  Mark Contreras was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer (his sixth) and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Andrew Albers struck out six in six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and no walks.  Beau Burrows pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Bubba Starling was 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs.  Ryan McBroom was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fifteenth) and two runs.  Erick Mejia was 2-for-4 with a double.

Good stats:  Jose Miranda was 1-for-5 and is batting .545.  Drew Stankiewicz was 1-for-3 in his AAA debut and is batting .333.  Nick Vincent gave up a run in two innings and has an ERA of 2.25.

Bad stats:  Albers has an ERA of 5.53.  Burrows has an ERA of 5.89.

Record:  The Saints are 23-26, tied for fourth place with Columbus in the AAA East/Midwest, nine games behind Omaha.

WICHITA 8, AMARILLO 1 IN AMARILLO

Spencer Steer hit a three-run homer in the fifth to give the Wind Surge a 5-0 lead.

Batting stars:  Steer was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, a walk, and three runs.  B. J. Boyd was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third), two runs, and two RBIs.  Trey Cabbage was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Jordan Balazovic struck out six in 5.2 scoreless, hitless innings, giving up two walks.  Alex Phillips retired all four men he faced, striking out three.

Opposition stars:  Luis Alejandro Basabe had the Sod Poodles' only hit, a home run with one out in the ninth.

Good stats:  Chris Williams was 1-for-2 and is batting .400.  Aaron Whitefield was 0-for-3 and is batting .301.  Adam Lau retired both men he faced and has an ERA of 2.25.

Bad stats:  Peter Mooney was 0-for-3 and is batting .164.  Jhonleider Salinas gave up a run in 1.1 innings and has an ERA of 13.50.

Record:  The Wind Surge is 29-21, in first place in the AA Central/North, a half game ahead of Tulsa.

QUAD CITIES 9, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN QUAD CITIES

it was 2-2 through six, but the River Bandits scored six in the seventh.

Batting stars:  Gabriel Maciel was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Daniel Ozoria was 2-for-4.  Seth Gray was 2-for-5.  Edouard Julien was 1-for-5 with a home run.  Alex Isola was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.

Pitching star:  Ben Gross struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Nick Loftin was 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs, and two RBIs.  John Rave was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Michael Massey was 2-for-4 with a home run (his seventh) and four RBIs.

Good stats:  DaShawn Keirsey was 1-for-4 and is batting .304.  Gross has an ERA of 2.66.

Bad stats:  Allante Hall was 0-for-1 in his professional debut and is batting zero.  Julien is batting .125.  Michael Helman was 0-for-2 and is batting .185.  Derek Molina allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning and has an ERA of 5.46.  Owen Griffith allowed five runs in 1.1 innings and has an ERA of 6.94.

Record:  The Kernels are 27-23, in second place in the HIgh-A Central/West, six games behind Quad Cities.
