Welp, I was thinking about going to one of those White Sox games. Glad I didn't bother.

We're going to one of the White Sox games at Target Field next week. Wee!
The kids are really looking forward to it though. They don't care if the Twins are awful, it's still good baseball. A couple years ago when we went to the game I remember Neitzsche was blown away by the experience - he had always pictured it kind of like our town ball games, where we're sitting in the bleachers behind home. The scope amazed him, and he's been super excited to get back.
If it was at Target Field, it would be better, but getting blown out in enemy territory is never fun (and especially not on the Southside).
Da.
Hey, gang, be sure to check your podcast feed (unless you aren't subscribed, and if not, why not!?) for a sneak peek at the Summer Mix!
what's a podcast feed?
Itβs like listening to pirate radio, but without one of theseor ads for Spanish fly.
Man, I miss Radio Shack.
I guess I'm ready for the Twins to deal Sano now so he can become the next David Ortiz. Or the next Delmon Young.
I thought Kennys Vargas was the next Ortiz.
Kitten integration has taken an unexpected turn. After more than a week the cat has accepted the kitten. Last night Mrs. Twayn gave the cat some catnip and she got really wound up and started playing with the kitten on the cat tower (PEDs for the win). She always maintains the high ground (she's a master tactician) and asserts her dominance and the kitten is still somewhat submissive, but they're interacting in a positive, non-threatening way. But the dog has become very protective of the kitten and when he plays with the cat the dog tries to jump in and keep them apart. So now we're trying to teach the dog that it's okay for the cats to play together. But overall I'm ready to declare victory.
Dogs, man. We don't deserve them.
Sometimes you have to wonder why they domesticated us in the first place.
Cat wrestling is so much fun to watch.
We introduced a younger cat to an older cat awhile back. At first we thought the younger was super aggressive as the older was so submissive. Then, when the younger one grew up enough, the older was like, all right, play time is over. WHOMP! Guess he was just taking it easy in the beginning.
Born October 8, 1970, the talented Mr. Matt Damon is 18,530 days old today. That's how old Wilford Brimley was on the day 'Cocoon' was released. Congrats Matt! You've reached the Brimley/Cocoon Line. pic.twitter.com/Jn0hWPUw9k
So, we're headed to Chicago next week for a dance competition but intend to make it vacation-ish and see some sights.
Anyone care to recommend "must-dos" or "don't bothers" for the Windy City with kids (8, 12, 15)?
I've always thought the view from the signature room in the FKA John Hancock building was better then the FKA Sears Tower. It's further north so you see all of the skyline.
The signature room is a restaurant/lounge but you can take the kids there during the day and pay for an expensive soft drink to enjoy the view.
This is one of my main Chicago tips. Pay for the expensive soft (or otherwise) drink, skip the admission fee.
The Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium are pretty awesome, plenty of parking at Soldier Field. We also enjoyed the Lincoln Park Zoo, it's small enough to see most everything in a couple of hours, but parking can be a bear.
Seconded on the Field Museum. Spent three hours there and wanted to spend three more.
I went to Second City...the night I was there it wasn't that great, but I'm sure it depends on the day. If you like being insulted by the staff throughout your whole meal, then Ed Debevic's will make you happy. They would try to make the insults appropriate for the ages of your kids, but I've heard of that backfiring, too.
Thirded on the Field Museum. My youngest was (and sort of still is) obsessed with dinosaurs, so it was right up his alley. He was looking forward to getting to see Sue in person for weeks.
I'm not sure if the older ones are too old, but they built a cool park/playground (Maggie Daley) a few years back right next Millenium Park. Free admission to the playground (there are other paid activities there as well), but as such, it will probably be crowded. If you're down there anyway, it's a fun stop.
Thank you all for the suggestions! Very much appreciated!
Love the EO* going into the holiday weekends.
*early off
Sitting outside on a beautiful patio, looking forward to a walleye sandwich (my hesitation on freshwater fish is being set aside)!
You chose wisely.
Yes I did.
Was great to meet you and your family, and sorry I did not make it back around to chat some more. We got smoked last night. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!
Mets are interested in Donaldson? I guess if they put the money instead into Berrios and Buxton
I suppose Donaldson is managing a decent, healthy streak right now. I expect it to fall apart on the brink of a trade agreement.

Wild have signed a center!
8 year deal is pretty great for Ek. $5.25M cap hit should be pretty manageable for the Wild.
It's a good contract for now, and defensive centers tend to keep their value (and their perceived value if a trade happens down the road a few years)
He'll be 32 when the contract expires, so a reasonable chance he'll be good throughout the entire contract.
Huh. I thought he was older than that. Yeah, sure.
How can we tell the Ek's apart?

Oy. I had not heard about Trevor Bauer. Sounds like he's about to go through some things.
