The Edmund Fitzgerald went down 46 years ago today.
At HJ's insistence, the Survival Pick-em League has been reset for all who were in originally. For others wanting to join, here's the link. I think that we can add people.
Quick game synopsis...pick one team to win each week, but you can only pick each team one time through the remainder of the regular season. Two strikes and you're out.
Based on very half-baked research, I think that come playoff time, any players remaining have their team picks reset, so you'll be able to pick from the actual playoff slate, but using each team only only once, so you have to save your SB pick for last. Or something like that.
My only strike was due to a forgotten pick. I won picking Miami. Let's do this.
Sure sure, when you pick Miami, it's genius. When I do it, it's "not thinking at all about my picks"
I had my annual eye appointment last week. Had to wear a mask the whole time, so reading the letters with fogged up specs was a little challenging. The news was good, though. My eyes are healthy, there's no sign of macular or vascular issues, and my prescription didn't change enough to warrant getting new glasses. Also, I've taken much better care of my current pair so they're not all scratched up after a year. Still, I might get a new pair because the bifocal transition on mine has always felt like it's too high on the lenses.
I recently had my first ever eye exam (eyes are great!) and I gotta say, the dilation drops made trying to text my wife that my appointment was done impossible.
About a year and a half ago, I went to the eye doctor. After that appt I:
1) Got a new prescription
2) Got new glasses with the blu-blocker tint
3) Started wearing them as a matter of course, instead fo "only when my eyes feel tired"
The combination of the 3 has helped me greatly.
I saw the eye doctor a couple months ago. First time since about 1998. I still have eyes, apparently.
So Tony Oliva and Jim Kaat have another shot at Cooperstown this year as both are on the 10-player ballot. I somehow missed this news last week, probably because it was in the Friday news dump.
I went to the eye doc last week. Same old same old. I went to the dentist today because I cracked a tooth yesterday! Gold molar here we come.
Looks like I'll have more to watch on Corncob TV as long as Spectrum doesn't cancel it
The “corpse fell out of the casket” in full view of “horrified family members who became visibly distraught and hysterical,” the suit said. https://t.co/WDPshJlVGD
that's bad, but it's still not "wrong body dressed in your loved one's clothing in your loved one's casket at the service" bad.
lol at Corncob TV reference!
The last several times I tried to start the lawnmower it took forever to get it going. Today I finally did some research and I've identified the culprit. This is a Honda GCV 160 engine with an automatic choke. The diagnosis is simple, you check to see if the butterfly valve on the carb closes when you engage the choke. If not, you shoot some carb cleaner in there and give it a pull. If it starts right up, the problem is the thermowax choke actuator. It's a $15 part and I can pick it up tomorrow at Northern Tool and Equipment in Rogers and get the mower all fixed up just in time to store it for the season. I'll probably get the snow blower out and ready to go next week as well. Winter is coming.
I've been pleasantly surprised by the richness of programming content I get with the Flex box. I had been wondering why Comcast would offer this for free to internet only customers, but I figured it out. A lot of the programming is truly free, but just as much if not more of it is from subscription streaming services. So I get all the free channels like Tubi and Pluto and Xumo, as well as our subscription services - YTTV, Netflix, Hulu, and Prime (these are all shared by the whole family). There are a ton of other apps included on the box that are also subscription services. Example: If I wanted to watch soccer 24 hours a day all year round, an ESPN+ subscription is $69.99/year, but I'd also get a ton of other live sports programming. So basically the Flex box is a loss leader for Comcast, they're getting their money from the content providers for adding new customers to their streaming services.
AFL report:
Scottsdale 2, Surprise 1.
Matt Wallner was 1-for-4. He is batting .269.
Evan Sisk pitched a perfect inning and struck out one. His ERA is 8.64.
New Mitski alert!

Aw, that's yesterday's news. No, literally.
Nobody ever accused me of being up to speed.
