  1. AFL report:

    Scottsdale 4, Salt River 3 (7 innings). I don't know why they only played seven innings.

    Michael Helman was 0-for-2 with a walk. He is batting .216.
    Andrew Bechtold was 0-for-0 with a walk. He is batting .214.
    Cody Laweryson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one. His ERA is 3.86.

  2. 2021 Minnesota Statutes
    473.763 COMMUNITY OWNERSHIP.

    §Subdivision 1.Purpose. The legislature determines that:
    (1) a professional baseball franchise is an important asset to the state of Minnesota and ensuring that a franchise remains in Minnesota is an important public purpose;
    (2) providing broad-based local ownership of a Major League Baseball franchise develops trust among fans, taxpayers, and the team, and helps ensure this important asset will remain in the state;
    (3) providing community ownership of a professional baseball franchise ensures that the financial benefits of any increased value of the franchise will accrue to those members of the community who own the franchise; and
    (4) enacting legislation providing for community ownership indicates to Major League Baseball continuing support for professional baseball in Minnesota.

    I don’t think I was aware of this statute before. It seems unlikely MLB would ever approve such a sale.

    1. This seems like what MLB would hang it's hat on:

      Subd. 2.Acquisition. Subject to the rules of Major League Baseball, the governor and the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission must attempt to facilitate the formation of a corporation to acquire the baseball franchise and to identify an individual private managing owner of the corporation. The corporation formed to acquire the franchise shall have a capital structure in compliance with all of the following provisions:

      1. I figured that might be the case, and I’m glad the state did so. I’m increasingly of the opinion that pro sports teams should be treated as public trusts. Whether this statute would be enforceable seems unlikely, but it still seems like an appropriate response given the machinations by MLB and Carl leading up to the funding of Target Field.

  3. Hey I have a free plus one to tonight's Nick Lowe show at First Avenue. You don't have to hang with me but you have to enter with me as I am on the guest list and would have to let you in. Let me know and we can coordinate times. You have to show proof of vax to get into First Avenue.

      1. Do you? I closed a gas station on 50th and France in the middle of my shift on a Saturday afternoon to go see a Golden Smog instore across town*. Just sayin'.

        *I was also 18, had 2 other jobs, and only worked at that gas station because I wanted to try a job with no responsibility that I didn't care about in the slightest, so there's that. Didn't get fired though!

            1. OMG, my buddy, who is a pastor and also happens to be a complete movie nerd, preached a sermon on Clerks last year. It was a good sermon about that exact line from the movie, which he related to the pandemic. He began his sermon with a lot of "just because I mention a movie in a sermon does not mean I'm recommending that you go out and watch the movie" qualifications.

  4. Costco has the Netgear Orbi WIFI 6 mesh setup on sale (base and two satellites), so I took the plunge. Preparing to spend all day on Sunday swearing and sweating, trying to get it to work with Uverse. Think good thoughts for me.
