We were only on the edge of the massive storm system, but it did get pretty windy here (and of course it was trash day) and the power flickered off several times throughout the evening. I'm sure my brother's family in central IA are reliving last year's derecho nightmare.
We got a lot of wind as well, but not even enough snow to cover the ground.
I'm assuming power is out for the rest of WGOM territory, given the dearth of comments here...
We had thunderstorms for a bit, then it was beautiful out, then the wind hit, along with enough snow to recover the stuff that had been washed away. Lost power for about 2.5 hours starting around 11, but nothing so terrible.
Power is on and school is open--woohoo!
The storm tracked a bit east and I don't think the big stuff hit the Twin Cities as hard as expected. Some power outages but not a ton.
The power stayed in the People’s Republic, but it was out for over twelve hours in the western part of the state where I have family. I was told the refrigerator registered 50°F this morning when it came back on, so it sounds like the food inside was a total loss. I hope they hadn’t stocked up for next week yet.
Didnt lose power, but had a pretty good "summer type" thunderstorm roll through about 6pm last night. Then the winds howled all night long. Something big (a tree branch or someones Christmas decoration) hit the roof about midnight causing a loud thud.
Here's a strange concept I wouldn't have thought I'd see a few years ago (at least not in my company):
Work is sending out a survey to see if people want to keep using their desk phones. They're considering getting rid of them.
My institution went full VoIP a few years ago, signing what I am sure was a rather lengthy contract with a major networking & services company. Since March 2020 I have used my desk phone exactly zero times and have received only one voicemail.
I've received several voicemail notices that my extended warranty is going to expire in the last two and a half years.
We are shifting to VOIP in the next few days. But keeping our phone numbers. I needed to find a way to protect staff's personal numbers when working remotely without issuing cellphones to everyone. Looking forward to it.
I am getting rid of most handsets as people will be able to use their laptops and headsets.
We're switching to Teams for calls, and getting rid of our handsets
Teams. Welcome to the suck.
Hey now, Teams happens to be able to do a whole lot of things. It doesn't do any of them at all well, but still...
According to the Four Letter:
Timberwolves: The 16 made 3-pointers in the first half were the most by any NBA team this season. ... Edwards' 10 3s were the most in a game in Timberwolves history.
*emphasis mine. I was honestly surprised by this … especially harsh given the Curry passing Allen all time coverage the past couple of days …
the two most prolific shooters from beyond the arc in league history and the Wolves didn’t need either of them. Still boggles the mind (edited to add, I see we’ve already scratched this particular itch).
It's amazing how often this organization passes on the better shooter.
Before last night, the Wolves only had two players shooting above average on 3s - Towns and Naz. I'm not sure if last night was enough to bring Ant up to average or not.
One could probably liken it to the Twins passing on better pitchers because they were not pitch-to-contact guys.
Yes
Anyone have any idea on what I could make to bring to a work potluck lunch? I was thinking throwing a bunch of lil smokies in a crockpot and dousing them in bbq sauce 😆
I mean, you can’t go wrong with that. If you’re already leaning ‘quick and easy meat in a crockpot’ … I’ve done this with much crowd appreciation before.
Mmmm.
Cheesy green chili tater tot hotdish.
1 can cheese soup
8 oz sour cream
2 cans chopped hatch green chilis (mild is alright but bring the heat if folks can handle it)
Can of corn drained and rinsed
I bag extra crispy tots
Shredded cheddar
Preheat oven to 425. Mix the soup and sc together in a big bowl and add chilis and corn (you can also add black beans if you need some fiber). Dump bag of tots into cheese mix and stir to combine. Dump into baking pan large enough to spread mixture two tots deep. Bake until crispy, add shredders and broil till bubbly and browned on top.
The next morning you can roll left overs in panko and refry to ensure your heart stops.
This is better
Also mmmm.
OMG. So going to make this for a potluck for 2.
Another option: make chicken chile verde and bring a bag o' tortilla chips and some shredded cheese. Instant chilaquiles! A sure crowd pleaser.
I made the chile verde without chicken plus a potato for a little more body a couple of nights ago (Because The Girl) and we had chilaquiles with a fried egg on top. Comes together in about half an hour, including prep. And really, really, really good.

Or you make both and have green chili totchos.
I might make this for myself 😆
That was one hell of a 4th quarter and OT.
