I was told there are 15 possibilities for _IGHT. I went searching for them and found: AIGHT, BIGHT, DIGHT, EIGHT, FIGHT, HIGHT, KIGHT, LIGHT, MIGHT, NIGHT, PIGHT, RIGHT, SIGHT, TIGHT, and WIGHT.
of those, the following were actual possibilities for me on my last (correct) guess: BIGHT, DIGHT, FIGHT, HIGHT, KIGHT, LIGHT, PIGHT. The non-ridiculous ones were LIGHT and FIGHT.
That was a low spot in my wordle life. Just mashing in letters to see if there was a word. There was. It didn't help, and I felt badly about it as soon as it took it.
Lousy would have knocked out two vowels and the letter y. So there were good options. You will just have to settle for solving the damned thing in two.
"The company said the game would initially remain free to new and existing players."
Sigh. Probably soon enough. From the article:
The company said the game would initially remain free to new and existing players.
—snip—
“The Times remains focused on becoming the essential subscription for every English-speaking person seeking to understand and engage with the world,” a company statement said. “New York Times Games are a key part of that strategy.”
Since The Times put up a paywall in 2011, its business strategy has revolved around persuading readers and users, the overwhelming majority of whom get Times content digitally, to buy subscriptions.
Read about the experiences some folks have at trying to cancel their NYT subscriptions. The strategy is not merely to persuade; it’s to leverage its size to M&A smaller properties and make it hard to unsubscribe.
The game is entirely client-side. Cloning the page elsewhere (such as here) and you would be able to continue playing it exactly the same as before. But now WGOMRDLE.
Right. Looks like the times says it will remain free (like their current [not backlog?] of crossword puzzles) Or did the move crosswords behind the wall and I missed it?
Crosswords are behind the paywall in fact there is a separate crossword access you can pay for if you don't want the newspaper. Same with NYTimes cooking.
That is annoying. Missed that change. Though online crosswords aren't particularly hard to find.
I subscribe already, and play the crossword and Pangram every day. I guess it’ll be my one-stop shop.
Also weird to see them “buy” a game that’s existed for years and wasn’t created by whoever coded Wordle.
I wonder how many people play elsewhere. I've always played at that site after coming to the realization that's where it was.
The page won't load for me this morning. Perhaps because I'm at the clinic getting an infusion and using their wifi? I'll see what happens after I get back home.
I think this is why the game is so popular. It's simple and sure if you have a good vocabulary and know word construction, you may do better over time than others, but some of it is plain dumb luck and there's a thin margin to get a 3 or a 5, regardless of your "skill." Why did you choose These over Those? There's no skill there, just an unlucky guess.
It is my position that there's a lot of luck involved. However, if I was leading, I might feel differently!!!! Ha! 🙂 Seriously, though, it's a pretty fun little way to start my day.
It took some time after my first guess, but my first guess didn’t leave me with all that many options. Once one finally occurred to me, I knew it was going to flip green.
At this point, I think getting 5 today was more impressive than getting 2.
"Impressive".
Got all of Wordle, Nerdle, and Wordle Espanol today!
I hadn’t seen Nerdle before, that was pretty fun.
Though I’m not a fan of the name. I would argue that doing this kind of puzzle with numbers instead of letters does not make it inherently more nerdy. It’s just a different kind of nerdy.
The spreadsheet demands your Wordle score.
Ohahahahahahaha no
I'm complete crap at Wordle. I only mention it when I do well. I don't want my futility recorded for posterity
My only explanation is blind stupid luck. First word was TRACK. I picked my second word to eliminate some letters. Went with a double vowel and just got stupid lucky.
Right. I think today's puzzle is further confirmation that it's best to go with the most common word when there are multiple options. Sometimes it's a crapshoot like yesterday's These v. Those (or all those _ight possibilities) but for the most part the most common word will win out.
🟨⬛🟩⬛⬛slice

⬛🟩🟩🟩🟩hoist
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩that one
Thought of the answer after two, of course, but felt like I was about to get trolled for picking a meme word. Words are chosen at random, right?
I usually play following the method for hard mode, but after my second guess, I had foist, joist, moist, and posit as possible solutions, so I decided to use JUMPS to narrow down the possibilities.
Today's word was kind of thumb in the eye to the idea that the most common words are likely right. It's not like shard is a word I've never heard, but when I typed "shark" I was sure that was right. But, no.
Concur.
Pretty much yes.

I’d been mostly sticking to the “hard” way and committed to letter elimination. Thought I was being really dumb for a moment, there, but definitely not much for options remaining at number 4. Jury’s still out.
Interesting thought. Knowing S is in the first position and having the H available is probably a smart play. I went with SCARY, if I had thought about it, eliminating the H, assuming it wasn't there, would have really honed in. Going with SCARY didn't eliminate much.
Having no vowels remaining and an out of position K and L really left me no other choice. Those first two guesses were actually really helpful while providing no letters.
