Hot air balloons over the mountainsides -- can't beat the view from my work laptop this morning.
Last night Philosofette was writing out some personalized Valentines for various co-workers, and I took the opportunity to help. My favorite was:
Roses are red,
And their thorns will stab at ya'
I wish you the best
On Valentine's, Tabitha.
Cancelled my auto-renewal on MLB radio. You have to pick a reason before it will process. Try as I might, the drop-down menu would not allow me to pick any reason other than "already have access to MLB.tv subscription".
When I cancelled my MLB.tv subscription I was disappointed by the limited response options. I guess they can’t handle the truth.
I try not to engage in too much hallmark capitalism but I did just book a trip to Edinburgh for late may as a present for dr. Chop. She should be a full professor by the time we board the flight. Never been to Scotland, looking forward to it.
that sounds sweet. i reeeaaaallllly want to go there. i was hanging out with a bunch of them in amsterdam, having a great time and said so, and one young lady replied, "yup, that's one thing about us scots, we sure can fuckin banter!"
After 6+ years of service, my Porlex Mini bit the dust last week. I’ve been hand grinding my beans every weekday for the last two years, and it was my travel grinder before that. The grinder worked…okay; it always felt a bit like a manual transmission with shot synchros.
I replaced it with a Knock Aergrind — holy smokes, this thing is a joy to use. Easy grind setting adjustments, smooth action, and much nicer in the hand. Suddenly my morning cup is much less of a chore. I’ll be dailying this at least until Fellow updates the Ode with the new burrs in development.
Despite the fact that I have no outdoor hobbies in the winter, and I possess a vehicle with autostart and heated everything, I can only imagine that running the last 3 miles of a marathon has to feel exactly like waiting for the first 40 degree day of the year. I swear I hit "10 day forecast" just as often as I google "Minnesota Twins Trade Rumors".
This is about the time of year I start really cursing living somewhere with this level of winter.
I have been regularly checking temperatures in Spain and going "/sigh Someday"
When it's 95 degrees in late October I feel the same way y'all feel right now. I'm saving my dollar bills to retire in San Diego.
We have had highs in the low 70s for nearly a week. Almond trees are in bloom, my roses are leafing out, and the lettuce in my winter garden has bolted. It is spring.
According to wikipedia, the average temps in Málaga are between 87 (July) and 45 (Jan).
(The record extremes are 111.6 and 25.2, but of course those are outliers by definition)
Even though I actually enjoy our desert summer heat, I think Kailua-Kona, on the big island of Hawaii, would be the perfect climate to live in. Monthly averages range from 81-87 for highs and 61-68 for lows, all-time high is 95, all-time low is 56, and it rarely rains. Plus, for my family, there are a fairly large number of astronomy jobs nearby.
No beaches to speak of there, though, although climate-wise that'd be sweet.
I guess maybe they are not officially inside the city borders, but there are multiple options within 10-15 miles. That's good enough for me.
There are kinda black sand beach to the north, but not really.
I’m staying a little north of there at Mauna Lani in April.
@Freealonzo - have you been there before? I have some suggestions for you if not.
Not easy to take your cross country road trips from there.
Ha! I'm just assuming in this scenario that I have a ridiculous amount of money, and can just fly anywhere whenever I want to.
That distance away from family is the reason I've never tried harder to get a job in Hawaii. I applied for a few, but at a time when I also applied for every single job I thought I was even somewhat qualified for.
Funny, I just returned from Kona - well Wiakoloa and I've begun to look for museum jobs ... not many on the big island. As to the beaches comment, there are plenty of very good enough beaches and snorkel put ins between the southern coast and Wiakoloa Village. I'd be more than content to live in the high grass pastures above Wiamea. Just an amazing place.
Hey Meat never been there. Definitely looking for suggestions. You can email me: my WGOM name @ Comcast dot net
Like I said I will be at Mauna Lani resort.
San Diego -- exactly
Well, sure. LOTS of dollars if you want to be west of the 805. And you WANT to be west of the 805.
And I suppose you don't have any dreams?
I suppose if you’re an ex-senior executive who was caught skimming money from the bonus pool for prospects from developing countries, your perspective would naturally be that players must negotiate against themselves capitulate to the deceitful, mingy, tax-dodging grifters who employ them — for the good of the sport.
