I see the political ads are starting to rev up. I'm sure this should be a relatively quiet midterm, yeah?

My YouTube experience has been inundated by ads paid for by a billionaire trust fund baby running for US Senate, in which he trumpets the “success” of the taxpayer-funded arena constructed for the basketball team owned by his hedge fund billionaire father, who bought the team from this state’s most recent former US Senator (who was himself the wealthiest person in the Senate). Trustafarian son is a VP of Daddy’s basketball team, naturally. The taxpayers of the state have paid as much for the construction of that arena as the contributions of Daddy Hedgebucks and the former Senator combined.
I got a mailer from that dude. It was.... unpersuasive.
If I can persuade you further, before working for Daddy’s basketball team he was previously employed by Goldman Sachs.
I know, his mailer had a picture of him with Obama prominently displayed. I am not this guy's target audience.
But has he ever celebrated Independence Day in Moscow?
If the general winds up being an election between a billionaire’s trustafarian son and a multimillionaire incumbent who married into generational wealth before becoming a traitor, I will reach a new level of dismay at the absolute shambles of this state’s political climate.
When I think MN is looking ugly, I look east and make that whistle noise that means “yikes, glad that’s not me 😳”
I have continually questioned my decision to settle here for more than a decade.
We specifically told our realtor two things
1) Within an hour-ish of the downtown of either MPLS or StP, and
2) No Wisconsin
Wisconsin is Janus-faced in a way I’m still struggling to comprehend. If you just take the composition of the US Senate delegation as a representation of statewide voter trends, this state has been represented by the following over the last century:
- “Fighting Bob” La Follette (Progressive Party)
- “Young Bob” La Follete Jr. (Progressive Party)
- Alexander Wiley (moderate Republican)
- “Tail-Gunner Joe” McCarthy (uffda)
- William Proxmire (conservative Democrat)
- Gaylord Nelson (progressive Democratic environmentalist)
- Herb Kohl (moderate Democrat)
- Bob Kasten (roughly median Eighties Republican)
- Russ Feingold (liberal, sometimes maverick Democrat)
- Ron Johnson (incumbent, double uffda)
- Tammy Baldwin (incumbent, roughly median contemporary Democrat)
This would be fascinating from the other side of the river. (And that’s saying something — Minnesota’s own political history is pretty darn interesting!) From this side, it’s a bit like finding yourself at a county fair, riding a dilapidated tilt-a-whirl that can’t stop.
Yeah, you too.
Big Pokeman card heist in Forest Lake. Spooky, what do the perps in this case do with the cards? On-line sales? I'm guessing going to any card shop is going to raise huge red flags.
Maybe, but we see a lot of big jobs done by put-of-state perps who take the stuff back to their home state and don’t sweat getting caught.
We know about that one, of course. They got a really good look at the perp.
He either resells the boxes or breaks them and sells the good cards (more likely the former). They aren’t even the latest store to get hit; a twin cities place got hit a few days later when the perp went through the ceiling, and then a wall.
This is happening everywhere nonstop. It’s infuriating.
