I've been going through select episodes of a long running podcast. It's always filmed recorded in front of a live audience, but I finally hit what I knew was inevitable: the pandemic.

First day of soccer (coach & player) for me and Niblet today. It’s a 6-game U8/U9 class that doesn’t keep score or have playoffs, but the guys know. Last year was my first year coaching his team and they blew out the competition and didn’t ‘lose’ a game. Given what I saw this morning with only three returning players … that’s unlikely to repeat. 😂 I do have the pleasure of two sets of twins on the squad, so I went with first names on the team shirts this year.
Team voted on names today … last year we were team, ‘Eye of the Tiger.’ This year, I got them to narrow it down to something easier for parents to cheer; ended up with team, ‘Jets.’
My daughter played soccer. Despite playing a bit as a youngster, I chose not to coach due to the fact I was doing my time on the youth hockey board and coaching baseball for 8 years. I loved playing soccer as a kid because I could out run pretty much anyone on the field and had pretty darn good stamina due to running reckless all over my neighborhood year round. When it came to watching youth soccer, I struggled. It's a messy game at the younger ages and I really didn't get into it until they got to the high school level. It as very similar to my experience watching my kids in orchestra. It is fun watching them progress over the years though. Hats off to you for coaching the kids. It is not as easy as some think, but it is rewarding.
zoom - This is an excellent comment. I didn’t want to be head coach again this year - wanted to assist - but the rec league struggles to find people with the willingness/desire, knowledge of the game and patience to volunteer and I did have a lot of fun running around with the guys. Did not want him to be on a team with 15 players where only 6 are on the field at a time.
Jets as in Sharks, or Jets as in J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS?
Or jets as in airplanes.
Yup, this. Someone smartly said ‘like the Avalanche?’ in keeping with the theme and I said, “Yes! but ‘NO! Not the Avalanche.”
Of course I post how well MNUFC is doing then they shit the bed losing two consecutive games 3-0!
MN sports, man. Belief is the precursor to disappointment.
