Someone brought up the 1988 Orioles while talking about the US House Speaker votes and it got me looking at that schedule and noticed the Twins played a one off game at Baltimore on May 4. Baltimore had earlier played at Minnesota and I assume there was no rainouts there because Metrodome. Google searches have been a dead end. Anyone remember why this one game series happened?
I do remember that the Twins were favored to win all three of the series Apr 26-28 even when the O's were overdue to win a game at that point.
Were there supposed to also be games on May 5 and/or May 6? I see there was a doubleheader on Jul 14 as part of a 5-game series...
May 4 was a Wednesday. The Twins played a two-game series in Milwaukee Monday and Tuesday and had a three game series at home with Boston Friday-Sunday. My guess is that they were supposed to play a two-game series with Baltimore, and the Thursday game was rained out.
Yep, that's what happened. The Twins played 162 games that season, so I checked later games and found it was made up in a doubleheader on July 14 in a now five game series.
And kids back in school today. I'm pretty sure all 4 of them also said "Blarg."
Everyone resumed on Tuesday for us, but the kids have tomorrow off.
Yesterday was Blarg Day for schoolchildren in the People’s Republic.
My kids don't go back until Monday, but the preemptive Blargs started yesterday.
No one has mentioned the new Hold Steady release they announced yesterday?

Ah. Thanks!
Heh. Slightly FZ snark from Jay Jaffe.
