Who'd ya'll like in the WBC? I'm picking Czech Republic as my Cinderella dark horse miracle team
There's a link at mlb.com that allows you to listen to the game. It sounds like it's the audio of the TV broadcast, but I'll take it.
Panama breaks a 30 inning WBC scoreless drought by scoring 5 in the inning
There should always be live morning baseball.
I agree
Any NYC (Manhattan) recs from the nation?
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but Philosofette and I are taking each of our children on a trip individually around the age of 10 or 11. Aristotle wanted us to take her to a Broadway show, so we'll be seeing Hamilton on Sunday night.
Not too many other specific things on the list yet, except probably Statue (yes, I first typed "statute" - every single time (darn these laweryly fingers!)) of Liberty and 9/11 Memorial one morning. And I have a cousin who works at the Math Museum and will be getting us in there for free.
All recommendations appreciated!
Times Square is a …. thing. I wouldn’t recommend it, but it is a thing.
The Cloisters museum (part of the met) is fantastic. The unicorn tapestries are fabulous.
Street eats from taco to halal. All the Indian food.
The food, yes. A real delicatessen where the corned beef is stacked half a foot high and the smell of the rye bread makes your nose tingle and they give you extra slices because all that meat. Maybe a little soup with it.
Firstly, this is a great idea. We've done it with our kids and it really paid off in spades. We need to get planning our third's trip. (We've taken them each to Montreal.)
My wife has been to the 9/11 museum and said it was pretty intense. So I'd just say think about how you are mixing that in with other activities.
The company I used to work for was based in NYC, so I generally would be there twice a year. Yet I'm not really coming up with Must Do™ things. (Also, time moves fast in the city, and I haven't been in 3-4 years – also before pandemic.)
We love Broadway, so yeah! I always loved to go to UBC. My memory says there are often shows that should be okay for the tweens, but no guarantees. I also always loved seeing a set at Village Vanguard. Buh, I suppose that's a bar. I was thinking Jazz Standard might be more kid friendly, but I guess it closed. I'm useless.
Did you ever rush tickets? Hamilton won out for my daughter, but she was also very interested in Lion King and Phantom (which apparently will be closing soon!), so we were considering trying for those too?
There is also a Museum of Broadway that could be of interest if theater is a theme of the trip.
The Girl does that occasionally.
If you haven't done the Ground Zero memorial, definitely consider that.
We walked the Brooklyn Bridge (worth it), and did classic tourist things last time (boat to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island). Very touristy on the Statue, but Ellis Island was great.
Get a slice. Hit some parks. Walk Central Park.
Also, MoMA, Guggenheim, Natural History. All awesome.
If she has any tips for rushing tickets, I'd happily take them. We'll probably do Ground Zero memorial, but not the museum. Hadn't considered Brooklyn Bridge. Could be cool.
This is definitely a trip where, the more I look, the more things I want to do. For some reason, NYC hadn't ever really been that high on my list of places to see, but now I'm already thinking I'd be ready for another trip.
Seconding the suggestion to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. It was one of my favorite things while living there!
Pearl River Mart in SoHo is great and could be a nice spot to pick up some cool, inexpensive gifts.
Make it a long day - walk the B. Bridge, find a place in Dumbo/Brooklyn for sandwiches or whatever, then back to Chinatown via the Manhattan Bridge for dinner. It was a day I logged 22,000 steps, but it was awesome.
Aristotle and I have been all about that one for a while. Probably should have mentioned it above.
Can recommend this spot for high-quality-not-fancy slices. Close to MSG/Penn Station (meh) and Moynihan Train Hall (nice) depending on how you travel in.
I love my air fryer.
I love mozzarella sticks.
But I'll be darned if I cant figure out the right time and temp to cook them to get them perfect. Either undercooked or the cheese oozes out of the breading. Blarg.
I was offered a selection of gifts from my work for...reasons? Anyway, I was eyeing the air fryer they were offering, but it was only 2Q. That didn't seem like enough to do much of anything with. I went with some BT headphones.
Can’t really help you with the air fryer l, but I do really love my new induction burner. Some learning curve but really responsive and doesn’t heat anything but the pan. That last bit is crucial to living in satan’s armpit.
I watch my air fryer like a hawk when I cook bacon. Half a minute too long and I'm eating carbon strips.
Ummm… this looks promising.
Emilio Pagan in a tune up game for PR versus Boston:
I got some welcome good news today, my company exceeded all of our bonus plan targets and the plan was generous so our part of Elder Daughter's wedding is basically paid for. I also got a raise at the top of the scale. Not quite on par with the long term average inflation rate, but better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Strand books. it’s a lot of books in one place.

Also, Katz's Deli is a NYC classic. And then hit up Economy Candy nearby.

I didn’t try Katz’s, but Sarge’s was amazing.
Walk The High Line.
Oh, yea.

How do you spell relief? D-F-A.

Congrats, Twayn!
