I don't usually find Randballs Stu all that amusing, but I have to admit I liked this one.
There are 6 teams that are still in single digit wins, 3 of them are in the AL Central
The flip side of the balanced schedule: the Orioles are in 2nd place in the AL East (of course, so far they've played the A's, Tigers, White Sox, Red Sox, Nats... not exactly a tough schedule yet).
Oof would it suck to be an A's fan right now.

Wikipedia helpfully has a page about relocations. From what I can tell, MLB has three teams with two relocations (this counts O.G. Milwaukee Brewers as part of Baltimore Orioles' history). NBA has the Kings with three relocations: Rochester Royals to Cincinnati Royals to Kansas City-Omaha Kings to Sacramento Kings.
The NFL has some fun moves. The Rams went from Cleveland to LA to St. Louis and back to LA. The Raiders went from Oakland to LA to Oakland and now reside in Las Vegas. And the Chargers went from LA to San Diego and back to LA. Do the Rams count as leaving three cities if they went back to one?
The Cleveland Barons merged with the North Stars in '78 and then were split in half to form the San Jose Sharks in '91 with the North Stars moving to Dallas later.
One of my favorite movie segments is Baseketball talking about relocations:
The Lakers moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles where there are no lakes
The Jazz moved from New Orleans to Utah, where they do not allow music
The Raiders moved from LA to San Diego and back. No one noticed...
I must’ve read the A’s were the first MLB team to relocate three times, then.
I thought San Diego had it bad for losing the Rockets, Clippers, & Chargers, but St. Louis has lost the Browns, Hawks, the Spirits, Cardinals, & Rams, plus the Negro National League Stars, two pre-merger NFL teams (the All-Stars & Gunners), and the Eagles, an early NHL team.
Wow. That article is excellent. What a dumpster fire. The bit about the possums was particularly enthralling.
At least Old Friend Brent Rooker is having a rocking season
Sometimes corporations really suck. MLB nixes Atlanta's "big hat" dugout celebrations because of New Era complaint.
how about tackling the tomahawk chop first, huh?
Well, sure. If you thought MLB cared about racism.
I think you have to cross Rob Manfred’s palm in order for him to care about doing the right thing not getting sued for breach of contract.
I don't often look at the National League standings, but when I do, I think "What in the heck is going on with the Pirates?!"
I think I may have cracked it
DPWY or Twayn - Is there any sort of certificate or something at like Guest Services to commemorate the girls' first Twins game?
Yes! We stopped there for the Poissonnière’s first game last year. The certificate now hangs on one of her bedroom walls. There is a location across the concourse from Section 113. They can also armband your children if you’d like to ensure you can be contacted in case of separation.
Thanks CH. I'll make a note of 113 so we can stop by
Got tickets for PJ!
Nice. I got shut out. Keep me in mind if you can't go.
Will do. My wife was the lucky one. I was waitlisted.
I really need this afternoon game today -- pretty much firefighting mode all morning and I could use the mental distraction.
or, you know, rain delay :/
Uh... same. I almost spaced the game log again, but remembered just in time. For the delay.
One of our best friends and my most trusted colleague just turned in his 2 weeks. Moving back to Milwaukee after 15 years in the crescent city. I’m pretty bummed. I had the opportunity to poop on his reputation during a reference call but decided to stay classy.
Not sure where one goes to talk music around here, but there is a terrific young band out of Asheville, NC called Wednesday that is in heavy rotation for me these days. They combine noisy alt-rock, shoegaze and a just a touch of twang. It shouldn’t work, but they pull it off. Singer songwriter Karly Hartzman is a wonderful lyricist with a poet’s touch. I was so taken with their recent release Rat Saw God (Their 4th album) that I snapped up their 3 earlier releases. The first two are really shoegaze—in the best possible sense. Their third is is covers collection called Mowing the Leaves instead of Raking Them . It is excellent, as they do songs by folks like the Drive-by Truckers, Vic Chestnut, Roger Miller and the Smashing Pumpkins. And just when I think I’ve hit the mother lode I find out that lead guitarist MJ Lenderman released a critically lauded solo record last year. It, too, is absolutely great, but definitely leans harder on the twang. I can’t recommend this band (and offshoot) enough.
Chosen to Deserve is great. really enjoy the whole record.
Painter's references are probably better than mine. I told a friend Big Thief crossed with Silverchair.
Really cool record though.
I love it! Hits so many sweet spots for me. Check out Lenderman if you haven’t. The clip I posted is about Jordan’s “flu game”.
Their DBT cover bests the original, imo. Great vocal harmonies. And those glorious guitars!
Already had that song liked on Spotify. We are simpatico on new music , for sure.
Did you check out that new Second Hand Orchestra record from my guest DJ week last month?
Thanks for reminding me. I did bookmark a couple from your dj set, but haven't watched them yet. I'll check them out soon and let you know what I think. We really do have simpatico tastes. Cheers, pal!
Looks like they'll be at the Turf Club June 28.
They got moved to First Ave for the same day. I have my tix!
It's at First Ave. Just bought a couple of tickets, though at 61 years of age I have grown to hate standing for 3 hours at a club. I swore I wasn't going back after the Beths show last month. They were great, but it was beyond crowded and my back and knees were shot by the end of the night.
Boots: I'll be 62 on Oct 27. Scary.
When did this place become a hangout for all you old people?*
*I'll be sixty-five by the end of the year.
I'll be 62 in September. Not scary.
I’ll beat you to that number by 3 weeks, Bo. Not a big fan of this aging business, but it clearly beats the alternative. Hope you’re getting back to full strength. Or as close as we fossils can get. 😏
I think she was being interviewed on Sheroes Radio or somesuch a recently past weekend.
They have incredible buzz right now. And rightfully so.
If you’re a fan of DBT and My Bloody Valentine you will want check them out. I also hear traces of The Pixies (Kim Deal stuff), a little Pavement, even a bit of Nirvana.
