dr. Chop had her student loans forgiven through the public service program this morning. Over the more than ten years of repayment we more than paid the principal but we were still over 100k in the red.
She was the first person in her extended family to graduate from college. She beat the odds after earning a phd and got a job in her field during the Great Recession. She successfully departed that job for much greener pastures in New Orleans. None of her dreams would have been possible without her education. We knew the cost and gladly (ish) repaid as we cruised into our 40s.
We would have paid on those loans for the rest of our lives without the pslf program. It’s a real, for real, life changing event.
That first paragraph is why I find the "you took the loan you should pay it back" or the " I paid mine so forgiveness isn't fair to me" line of thinking to be absolute horse shit. I paid mine off just before the pandemic started but my mom also paid for half and I was fortunate to get a 1% interest rate. Those circumstances are rare.
My wife is working on the psf as well. She's 6.5 years into her job. She just had a bachelor's so it isn't as large of a sum, but it'll be nice when it's gone. I'm not exactly looking forward to having to make payments again, though.
But anyway, congrats to Dr. Chop both on the forgiveness and for working in public service in general. A noble thing to do.
Congrats!
This is what the program is for.
This is good news.
Congrats! Great news!
Larnach is back?
Replacing Max Kepler, who went on the IL. Larnach did very well in his short stint in St. Paul.
I don't see a game log, but the game is delayed. Radar shows rain ending around 4:00 pm and then clearing off, so I'm assuming they'll get this game in today.
I'll be making a game log in a bit here.
First pitch at 2:30, they're saying now.
well, it took about ten months but I am, for all intents and purposes, done with the basement.
Are you, though?
That's extremely fair. I do have a small amount of cosmetic stuff to touch up, and obviously cleaning up. But I'm definitely at a point where the tv can go on the wall and furniture brought down.
I finished our family room remodel a year ago and there's still no trim on the doors.
We* start demo on our master bath in about a week.
*By "we" I mean paid professionals. I am staying the hell out of the way. Which is best for everyone.
I am allergic to hiring anyone, so I did all of the framing, plumbing, electrical and flooring myself. I am also extremely mechanically inclined, which helps. I didn't get a mechanical engineering degree for nothing!
I finished the better part of a basement in our first house, but those ambitions are 20 25 years in the past
Participated in my 11th parkrun 5k in Cottage Grove this morning. Man, this has been a great thing for me. I continue to get in better shape and my times continue to drop.
The Eagan parkrun is closer to my home, but the course in CG is easier and I really like the folks who run it.
I posted a while ago about my 2023 fitness journey. I continue to make strides. One of my goals was a 30:00 5k. This morning I did 31:18, so I’m getting close. This goal is not really the point, it’s a way to keep me motivated to improve.
If anyone is interested in joining me, let me know. The events are at 9AM every Saturday morning. I would love to see any of you that can make some weekend.
I miss running so much. My ankle is getting closer, but I don't think it's there quite yet.
Note to everyone: walking is allowed and encouraged! HJ, your ankle may not be up to that, but just a note for everyone.
I have been walking to try to get said ankle up to snuff. A brisk walk feels like it’s working out the right places. Happy they built that bridge across the river by work for easy forest trail access. Always a great way to spend a lunch break.
Biking! I can't recommend cycling enough to anyone with ankle issues. I had tendonitis in both achilles until I started cycling and it made it disappear.

I'd still make that trade, and I'd still be sad.
Yeah, I never liked the trade but I understood it. The old heart/head dichotomy.
I'm just glad he's not a Yank or type of Sock so I can be happy for his great performance
I don’t think this is forbidden but err on the side of caution
Outstanding!
