July 24, 2023: LFG(ourd)!

Okay, in our muskmelon discussion, everyone kept bringing up watermelons, which are gourds. Let's discuss them in their proper context. I'm even going to let you vote twice this time.

(And yes, I know many other things fall under the gourd family, but these are your choices.)

  1. You left out "Gross"

Yesterday I came downstairs to a mess in the kitchen; Mrs Runner had bought a small watermelon a day or two earlier and hadn't gotten around to cutting it up yet, so when I found it Sunday morning it was sitting on the island in the middle of a puddle of sugary water and white foam. There was apparently a pinhole crack in one end and the inner pressure squeezed out a sticky nightmare.

  2. Does anyone here want a bluesky code?

First to email me at andrew [at] mcguiregis [dahtcahm] gets it

Claimed. I am due for a new one in two weeks, so I will post this again when applicable

  3. So in the small city of Iiyama (Nagano prefecture), we visited an under-construction old minka, which is being turned into an Okinawan restaurant. The owner was Kenta - younger than me and a very calm soul.

That night we ended up singing with him (and others) at a local karaoke joint. At the end of the night he gave us his card (for the forthcoming restaurant). Full name: Kenta Maeda. Many "wow"s were stated and pitching motions motioned. πŸ˜†
