The only Tweeter polls I take part in are Scran v. No Scran.

Good cover: Luke Combs, Fast Car (Tracy Chapman)
So-so cover: Michelle Branch, A Horse With No Name (America)
Bad cover: Number 9, In Elizabeth Park, Band On The Run (Beatles)
So it's always bothered me that I think a majority of people today believe that Life Is a Highway is a Rascal Flatts song. While it charted one position lower than Tom Cochrane's original, being in the movie Cars means the Rascal Flatts version is in the heads of ALL the kids and parents. I know my kids's elementary played the song constantly at event days and "hype up" back to school things.
I've never felt that the Rascal Flatts rendition of the song is much different than the original. I wished the movie had just used the original instead of a cover version, especially since the original was only 13 years old to American ears (14 to Canadian ears).
It's bothered me, even though my perception of the original song at the time was OMG THIS THING HAS BEEN PLAYED EVERY HOUR ALL SUMMER. I was tired of it. And now I defend it.
And so I found myself sitting poolside at the city facility in my hometown, watching my daughters and nephews swim in the pool, and on comes a song from my city pool years – Fast Car. I can't help but feel similarly to my Life Is a Highway feeling, but to be honest I haven't listed to the cover much. Also we're sitting here 35 years after the original came out. I suppose I should let it go.
I do like that both Luke and Tracy have a mutual admiration for each other's versions, and if it's good enough for them, I can live with it (Tracy's is better)
I did read that, and she doesn't talk to the press much so really took it to heart. That's kind of the end of the story right there!
b-bu-but teh Social Mediaz Deciders are Angry!
At some point I saw the special features from Cars and the music director said “when we discovered this song, we knew we had to use it and we really needed it to rock!”
Discovered?! And you leaned away from the rock version and into a country boy band to ensure it rocked?!
*cringe*
The big kick for me in the original (besides the nice bass hook) is the riffing on a triplet-beat rhythm guitar driving in the background; on the Rascal Flatts version is just some off-beat strumming
This thread has at least successfully gotten that song in my head all day.
Coincidentally it came on the radio when I turned on my car tonight. Ugh. I can't stand any version of it.
Isn’t it Xer polls now?
no.
Really like what Ant is doing in the World Cup. Hope he saves some for the season.
That's about what I expected: that it would favor the Twins but not enough to make up the overall differential.
Not so much favored the Twins as didn't hurt them as much
So, I saw the orthopod for my hip today. His diagnosis is tendinitis. Gave me a shot and yet more exercises.
He also said that both femoral heads (the balls) are a bit too flat, causing premature wearing of the cartilage in the sockets. Opined that I would need the right hip replaced in 5-10 years.
Good news, I guess.
don't wait until you're painfully hobbling, though -- it's not worth it.
Thank you. You are my hip sensei. I'll be back on this topic in a few years (if not sooner).
If you're only going to see one video of 47 year old LEW! hitting a homerun, make sure it's this one simply for the most inexplicable color commentary I've heard in a long, long time.
like... what is that guy doing?????
there has to be a story behind that.
