Very well put.
The Arizona Fall League started Monday. I'm not going to do a separate post for it every day, but I will try to drop something in the cup to let you know how Twins players are doing. Our team this year is the Glendale Desert Dogs.
Monday, Glendale lost to the Salt River Rafters 3-1. Aaron Sabato was 1-for-4 with a home run. Kala'i Rosario was 0-for-3 with a walk.
Tuesday, Glendale lost to the Scottsdale Scorpions 1-0 in ten innings. Sabato was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Rosario was 0-for-3 with a walk.
Andrew Cossetti has not played yet, and none of the Twins pitchers has seen the mound. Well, they've probably seen it, but they haven't been on it during a game.
So...is Andy Fletcher's scorecard out yet?
+1.4 runs to the Blue Jays, three most impactful misses all went against the Twins, with the Julien “strikeout” predictably being the worst. I’ve seen worse performances by the percentages, but his misses were not on particularly close calls.
The day after the Twins won their last playoff game, my job required me to sit in the parking lot most of the evening to do union busting activities so I missed most of it. The Twins then lost 18 games in a row. Just realize it's all my fault guys.
In other news, I woke up super sick and will not be working today. I learned my lesson.
I'm giving partial streak-breaking credit to "Twin Cities" uni. They're pretty sweet, and they know it.
I was in the first semester of my sophomore year last time they won a game.
I only had one kid. Now I have 5 more, and the first one is out of the house.
I was still living in STL
I was working as an accountant
A lot has changed for sure
The last time the Twins won a playoff game was 2 weeks after my wedding and on the first day of my outboard engine overhaul school (Navy ‘C-school’) at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado - Coronado, CA.
No kids
No dogs
No house
3 years and two deployments left on my enlistment.
I went the very scenic route through college, picking up random credits with reckless abandon. I would have been just getting on my feet in Wenonah then. Can't remember more specifics than that, but I do remember watching them lose each game in the 2006 playoffs while serving at the restaurant. I didn't know that would be the start of much more misery to come.
I was in law school. Now I'm a lawyer.
Crazy how things change.
Odd progression there
Very odd. I went to law school, and now I'm a pastor.
I was still in academia.
I was in grad school, and must have just met my now-wife.
That was evidently also the year I missed the Red Sox comeback from down 3-0 to the Yankees because I was busy observing with the Keck Telescope in Hawaii.
-The Twins can’t play with fire; need to start better defensively - that first inning was not good.
-Gray needs to continue doing his 6 or 7 innings and 85-95 pitches trend. He’s been great over his last 7 starts, giving up 1 run or fewer in 6 of them. The team needs to back him up though: 2-2 and 3 no decisions in those games.
-In a short series, it’s possible for one or two guys to carry a team, but they need more out of their veterans: Polanco, Jeffers, Kepler and whatever combination of Castro/Solano/Farmer are batting.
…and…the key in my opinion:
-They can’t let Berríos get rolling. He’ll give up a few HR here and there, but he’s also striking out a guy per inning pitched over his last 10 starts … which is still an issue for the Twins (11 k’s. The only starter who didn’t strike out yesterday was Lewis).
However, the only team he’s faced since the end of July who made the playoffs is the O’s who beat him on Aug. 24. He went 3-5 w/ two no decisions in those final 10 starts.
I might have an extra ticket if anyone wants to sit with / in the 300s.
Grabbed a haircut and hit the drive-thru for lunch on the way home -- two different people saw the TC on my shirt and asked if I'll be watching the game and wished the Twins luck. Good vibes outside of MN too, happy to report
Much has been made of our playoff futility in the past 18 years - ESPN covered it pretty exhaustively last night - so it could be that those without a team left are gravitating toward supporting a beleaguered fan base.
We'll take it!
I got (playfully) booed for my Twins shirt at Griffith Observatory a couple weeks ago. A dude getting off the bus wearing a Cleveland shirt said "Boo Twins, yay Guardians."
So being sick and all I just watched Game 1 of the 87 ALCS. Most of the homers in the series by both teams were high fly balls that barely cleared the fences. Gaetti hit two massive rockets to center field.
And while this is not surprising, the pitching is a sight to see. Doyle Alexander, who was Koufax for 11 games for Detroit, would not have gotten out of the first inning yesterday. Of course they would have to eventually call the game after the Twins lead 50-0 after destroying every reliever too.
Also also, every 26 year old looks 40 and Sparky Anderson looked 80
I think Sparky Anderson looked 80 when he was 20.
That's because he drank two dozen cups of coffee a day, he was on fast forward most of his life.
The last time the Twins won a postseason series, I had not yet started the website that preceded this one.
I forget if the original site was on WordPress or not, but just to give some context on the state of "web logs" at the time, WordPress was not yet released the last time the Twins won a postseason series.

Against all odds.
