Every morning I do a quick search for my name in the court calendar, just to make sure I'm not missing a hearing. Most times I can type "Nov" and find my name. But during this month I have to type "Nova" since the word "November" appears freaking everywhere on the calendar.

Reminds me of when I was researching my ancestry and I would search for my German father's mother's maiden name "WILL"
Glendale had a scheduled day off yesterday. The Desert Dogs are 10-14, tied for fifth (last) place with Mesa. The season is dwindling down. Next Sunday is the Fall Star game, and the championship will be played on Veterans' Day.
I took the Poissonnière trick-or-treating yesterday as usual. She was a pirate this year. It was cold enough for a coat and toque, so I wore a grey & black jacket with a black wool cap and yellow gloves. One of our stops along our route is a longtime Pirates fan going back to the 1950s, so I told him I was a pirate too, because I was going as “Derek Shelton in the offseason.” Got a good laugh.
I can’t recall if this has been posted before but a restored newsreel of Washington from Senators winning game 7 of 1924 World Series from the Library of Congress. Link includes discussion of its discovery and restoration. Scroll to bottom for actual 4 minute video.

That's pretty neat.
Very cool! I think there are a few stories to be told in that box score: https://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/1924/B10100WS11924.htm
Cc to philo- I sent you an email. Let me know when the clock starts running 😉
One of my son's classmates is named Nova
well, that could blow up on him sometime in the future

oh, you didn't say supernova!
I think you meant "suphernova".
For the Sconnie contingent that likely has an opinion:
Two state legislators are trying to make the brandy-based old-fashioned the official cocktail of Wisconsin.
I have found that I hate the Wisconsin Old Fashioned. My main complaint is that its too sweet and does nothing to highlight the spirits used. But, you have to do a bunch of useless work to make it and end up with crap, so I'm ok with it as the state drink as it accurately reflects our current legislature.
I prefer drinking a Brandy Old Fashioned Sour or Soda these days, but I don’t drink often or much anymore, either.
What else makes Wisconsin unique? Oh, Governor Evers suing the Legislature in the state’s Supreme Court because that representative’s party has taken one class of state workers as political hostages after passing the state budget? But I guess Rep. Plummer has no influence on the speaker of his own chamber.
Speaking of Evers, I am going to pitch an idea to my filmmaker teammate that he write an Evers biopic and having Stephen Merchant play him.
If only we also had a connection to a screenwriter....
When I saw "Evers" on the sidebar, I assumed it was Johnny Evers.
Up in the Chequamegon it's B&B in the flask (Benedictine +Brandy).
Semien was on the local Northwoods League team back when they were still a thing. I watched him play baseball on a field that I played on, myself.
Very cool seeing him on top.
I don't think I've ever seen a slam dunk at the buzzer before.
