The Athletic's reader ballot results are out and only Beltré made it in with a scant 82.6%. Mauer finished second with 61% voting yes.
The HoF tracker has Mauer just outside at 72% with 11 ballots.
Jeez. How many votes did Jim "Birdcage Liner" Souhan cast in thst readers' poll?
Leading 5-2, Estrellas scored four in the eighth to put away a 9-3 victory yesterday. Dairon Blanco was 3-for-5 with a double. Lewin Diaz was 3-for-6 with a double. Roel Santos was 2-for-4 with a double. Robinson Cano was 2-for-5 with two doubles. Jonathan Arauz was 2-for-5 with a home run. Luis Moreno got the win, striking out four in three innings of relief while giving up a run on a hit and a walk.
Caribes did not play yesterday.
Looking up Robinson Cano's stats .239/.239/.313/.552 in 17 games. At 40 years old, it might be the of the road getting an MLB roster slot
Gleeman's recent article includes this line: But the goal is to add to that group, and with a quality starter rather than merely a back-of-the-rotation innings eater.
Sounds like they are more likely to add an arm via trade than free agency, which makes sense. This front office did well in trades that yielded Maeda, Gray, Ryan and Lopez over the past few years. This is why I was not too alarmed when they chose not to over pay (IMO) for Maeda or Gray this off-season.
Like the past few years, I am antsy waiting to see what rabbit they pull out of their hat this year. Despite the doom and gloom being circulated around Twins fans (as usual), I am still on board with this regime.
(As usual)
Heh. Nothing like the positivity of the Midwest.
Not bad = good.
The twins win the World Series = they’ll suck next year.
Wow. Straw, meat camels back. I am out.
Oh, I’m not saying you’re buying into the classic midwest pessimistic optimism, in fact just the opposite. I agree that the sky isn’t falling and that we should revel in our recent successes (playoff win, playoff series win!!!!) rather than focus on the horrible unknown future.
Didn’t mean to break backs!
To clarify my WS comment, I remember vividly the last out being recorded in 91. The joy and excitement was overwhelming and then almost immediately I remember hearing, “but they’re going to suck next year”. The what have you done for me latelyism of this moment kills me. As ubes notes below, the internet is going to be negative and I wasn’t trying to add to that vortex.
Xo
I appreciate the clarification meat. I obviously read that differently than you intended. I have never had any issue with you on this site and I apologize if my misunderstanding created some angst in your world. However, my response is kind of the result of a compilation of feelings over the years. I originally came to the WGOM as an escape from the folly of other Twins fan sites and the silliness of strib commenters. I have made a fair amount of friends on this site. I just find myself not enjoying the baseball conversations here anymore. Maybe I have changed... I don't know... but most times we do engage in baseball talk I find myself coming away with bad vibes. So, I am going to take a break for a while.
No worries, dude. Ships in the night and water under the bridge.
yeah, where did this come from? I'm sitting in zoomie's camp as well
Like you, I don’t feel a lot of doom and gloom. They will probably make some moves, but it’s natural that the internet mood will be kind of negative until those come through. It natural resting state of the internet appears to be negative, unfortunately.
AL Central did pretty well in the draft lottery. 'course you have to suck to set up for doing well in the draft lottery...
RIP, Denny Laine.
Oh, man.
If he's gotta go, oh he'd better go now...
I see what you did there.
