Joanna Sternberg released their second album this year. Their first album was not released in 1971, though this album of indie folk gems would fit along perfectly next to Barbara Keith, Norma Tanega, Margo Guryan, and Vashti Bunyan
I turned 40 this year which seems like the right time to make an effort to start getting into new music again, right? Some newer/new to me groups I really enjoyed were 'Cusp', 'Hotline TNT', 'feeble little horse', 'Florry' and 'Palehound'. Some good efforts from GBV, Lydia Loveless, Jason Isbell (King of Oklahoma, whooo boy), and Joshua Ray Walker (very cool cover album). FTLT favorites Hold Steady and New P put out new albums too.
Here is a playlist of things I liked this year for your listening enjoyment: https://tidal.com/playlist/45a53753-cb6f-4058-9a42-8e812b33cb78
The Cusp album was probably my favorite of the year. Not a ton of high quality videos on YouTube but check the record out

Thumbs up on feeble little horse. I liked most of that album too!
A lot of MBV influence in many newer bands, whether they know it or not.
This was supposed to be threaded to DG. Not a comment on this song!
**conspicuously turns the MBV influence dial further and further**
Well, my turn. This was supposed to be in reply to FtLt which was supposed to be in reply to me. I swear this was unintentional.
Gotta be very confusing for others seeing all this MBV talk for this video.
Gotta be confusing to others who don't even know who MBV are without Google lookup
I wrote down Ms. Steenberg’s name after reading a very intriguing review of her album. Never got around to checking it out, but I’m going to now.
Stupid autocorrect. I had spelled it ‘Sternberg.’
