Harsh start to the week: firetruck and ambulance working on someone at the bus stop near the HQ in Omaha this morning 🙁
When you spend the morning visiting HVAC parts warehouses because you need a part for your furnace that dates to the first year of the Bush administration (the one that ended 31 years ago):
Umm, whaaat?
Do you have a coal-fired boiler or summat?
Nope, just a gas furnace made by a Raytheon subsidiary before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
I hope Bobby Witt Jr doesn't turn out to be a Twin killer. They are going to face him a lot over the next eleven years.
BREAKING: Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and the Kansas City Royals are in agreement on an 11-year, $288.7 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN.
News on the monumental deal with full details, including opt-outs and a club option, free to read at ESPN: https://t.co/CooPBe69Du
I just saw recently that George Brett is the only Hall of Fame that primarily played with the Royals. I was pretty surprised with this but couldn't really come up with anyone else. Frank White was the closest I came. Maybe Grienke will get in but I know he's bounced around a bit in his career.
Quisenberry & Saberhagen both came to mind, and both fall short, but probably better shots than White.
Despite the weirdness around reliever standards, I think Quiz is the most compelling candidate outside the Hall from the fireman era. Sabes & Appier probably are both short even for their eras.
Among position players, Amos Otis & Willie Wilson played there a long time but neither has a particularly strong case.
Greinke will get in for sure
Yes. And he's played 9 of his 20 seasons with the Royals. That probably counts.
Cc to Rhu_Ru: If you’re still in Omaha tomorrow, get a kolach & a plain cake doughnut from Olsen’s.
oh dang -- I'm vehicle-less, unfortunately. I will hit up Block 16 though.
Just have to put this somewhere: I made a slow cooker chili yesterday. Added some good red wine and liquid smoke, and those really took it to the next level. I'm gonna have to remember that for future iterations.
Just have to put this here we have a whole category for vittles, dude. It needs to be taken out for some exercise.
I went down to the basement to check on my sauerkraut this morning, expecting to have to scoop off a couple floaters. It's been about ten days since I started this batch.
Unfortunately, there was a substantial rug of green mold floating on top. Shit. I haven't pitched this batch (yet). But I know I probably should.
Lots of online sources suggest I may be ok, since my ferment is all still well-submerged. I have a couple of whole cabbage leaves plus weights on top of the shredded stuff and there is still brine above the weights. But the mold did smell bad when I scooped it out.
I just ate an MRE produced during Obama’s first term, so I can offer no suitable advice.
Snowed in?
The Poissonnière & I have been watching YouTube cooking channels like Kenji, Adam Ragusea, and Glen & Friends for several years. A while back she asked about another video in my feed, one by “MRE Steve,” and was fascinated when I told her he eats food older than her grandparents. She’s both grossed out and really interested in the variety of the rations.
Well, she eventually discovered I had an MRE gifted to me and has been asking if we could eat it. I finally gave in. I tried everything before I let her have some just to make sure it was safe, and now she can say she’s eaten food that’s four years older than she is herself.

Checking the splits and his tOPS+ is 99.

Oh fer yum! Their goose poutine was delicious.
Love the Duck Duck Goose fries
I don't love the name.
It's a play on the gooseberry gastrique, but yeah
