Might have spent a little bit too much at the Chicago Rocks and Minerals Society silent auction yesterday.

My grandparents were big rockhounds. I'd be put to work carrying boxes in and out of shows for their exhibition booths. My grandpa loved teaching me about that stuff. I remember once as a grumpy teenager being dragged around Western North Dakota to lift any cannonballs he found. Definitely didn't appreciate it at the time but thinking back, it was pretty cool. I think I have a box of minerals at my parents' place somewhere, I'll have to check it out next time I'm there.
Many years ago one of my coworkers has a book identifying places around the StL area where fossils could be found between the right layers of limestone, and Runner daughter and I brought home a few small shell and trilobite imprints
Drake Bulldogs in the tournament.
Speaking of fossils?
Wasn't supposed to go there. Stupid phone
Yeah! The oldest is excited to be traveling with them via the pep band. Hopefully the women get there as well!
Fun!
Yes. Women should be in.
i saw there was a fairly famous region for hunting geodes near the IL/IA/MO border, but it doesn’t appear to be as easy as just walking around down by the river.
We had our best findings above a highway cut
The NBA announced Rudy Gobert has been fined $100,000 for his actions towards, and comments about, the officials during and after Friday’s loss to Cleveland.
Is it true that FanDuel is offering free $ if you use the code, "Rudy"?
Draymond, a known and oft punished jackass, got a $25k fine for physically assaulting Rudy on the court. Just sayin'.
Insane.
I haven’t watched the Oscars in 25 years and I’m already nauseated.

I will say, the two Oscars I cared most about went where I had hoped: The Boy and the Heron for animated film and Godzilla Minus One for Effects
For the last two years my wife and I have watched everything that got a nomination (though I fell asleep the first time I tried to watch it, and only made it halfway through before the ceremony started). Of the 23 categories, only 4 of my personal picks won: Da'Vine Joy Randolph in supporting actress, American Fiction for adapted screenplay, Poor Things for costume, and Zone of Interest for sound. Most winners were ones I didn't prefer, but could at least see where they were coming from and have no issue with, considering judging art by voting is a subjective and largely ineffective way to find excellence.
The only winners I really disagreed with were War is Over! and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. I thought those were each easily the worst of the nominees in their category. And I know this is my own personal opinion/bias and can understand the artistry behind it, but I did not like Boy and the Heron at all.
